On July 14, the People's Committee of Hieu Giang commune (Quang Tri) said that for many days now, a herd of snails (squatting) with a quantity of up to thousands of snails has returned to earn food and take shelter in the fields of Phu Ngan and An Binh villages.
During the day, storks gather in large flocks, spreading white wings on rice fields and mud fields to hunt for prey. In the evening, they sleep overnight in the nearby cajuput forest.
snails are a rare bird, belonging to the herring family, recorded in the Vietnam Red Book, often living in mangrove forests. The appearance of a large herd of storks shows that the natural environment in this area is still quite good, rich in food.
The local government has promptly propagated and mobilized people not to hunt, chase or set traps, and at the same time coordinated with forest rangers to monitor and protect the crocodile herd.
According to the leader of Hieu Giang commune, many years ago, this area often recorded snails coming to live in high density.
