House cracked, rocks and soil slid into the bedroom
For many years, households living in Pho Nam village, Hai Van ward, Da Nang city have always been worried about landslides every time there is heavy rain.
Ms. Pham Thi Minh (living in Pho Nam village, Hai Van ward, Da Nang city) said that in 2022, a heavy rain caused a large amount of rock and soil from the mountainside to collapse, sliding into a family bedroom.
In 2022, rocks and soil from the mountain slid down and buried the familys bedroom, mud flooded into the house, wetting all the clothes and furniture in the house. From that year until now, every time we heard it raining heavily, we had to pack our belongings and move them elsewhere, not daring to stay in the house. Even the area adjacent to the landslide bedroom is now vacant, and my family does not dare to move around because they are worried about the risk of further landslides," said Ms. Minh.
Ms. Minh added that recently, her house walls have appeared many large cracks and peeling walls.
To limit red soil and mud from flooding into the house during heavy rains, her family was forced to temporarily build a concrete wall to separate the landslide from the indoor space.
However, this is only a temporary solution, because the landslide that year was only one wall away from the family's living space.
Right next to Mrs. Minh's house, the house of Mr. Lien Ky and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hoa is always in a state of fear of landslides.
Over 60 years old, poor health makes traveling difficult, but the couple still have to stay in a house with a large crack in the wall, located close to the cliff.
"The house is cracked, every time it rains heavily, we can only look out into the alley, hoping that the authorities will soon come to support us to take us to a safe place," Ms. Hoa said sadly.
Hope to be relocated soon
Faced with the constant risk of insecurity, households living in Pho Nam village have no choice but to soon move to a new, stable and safe place.
Now, in the tiem nang of Ms. Minh, Ms. Hoa and many households living in this area, they are always haunted by storms.
Ms. Minh added that year, when rocks and soil slid down to her family's bedroom, a large rock also fell down.
That year, while in the house, I and the surrounding households heard a loud noise, people went to the place where the noise was and discovered a large rock falling right behind the house.
Fortunately, the rock fell just close to the edge of the house, causing no casualties. Up to now, that large rock is still at the scene, becoming a nightmare for people every time it rains heavily, said Ms. Minh.
For them, each rainy and stormy season is another time of mounting worries and the biggest wish at this time is to move to another place to ease the insecurity that has lasted for many years.
Faced with the above situation, a representative of Hai Van Ward People's Committee informed that there are currently 7 households in Pho Nam village in the landslide area that are subject to relocation, but so far they have not been able to implement it. After the recent flood, the locality has supported funding for households to repair their houses and stabilize their lives.
