Investing 3,300 billion VND to overcome flooding in Giua stream
In recent years, the stream area In Chanh Hiep ward, Ho Chi Minh City, there has often been localized flooding, affecting traffic and people's lives.
The Giua stream (from the National Highway 13 toll station) receives a large amount of rainwater from high points. The water flow into the stream is many times higher than the existing load capacity of the stream.
Investing in renovating drainage systems and protecting streams is both an immediate solution to cope with flooding and has long-term strategic significance to protect the environment of this area.

The authorities have decided to invest in the Suoi Giua - Bung Cau drainage project. The goal is to drain rainwater and treated wastewater for a 4,538-hectare area in Thu Dau Mot, Binh Duong and Chanh Hiep wards.
The project will reinforce the Giua stream section about 1,480 m long. At the same time, build 2 sections of canals connecting the Giua stream, namely Bung Cau canal about 1,453 m long and Ba Co canal about 2,300 m long.
This is a group A project with a total investment of VND 3,330 billion. The project will be implemented from 2026 to 2031.

Restarting the drainage project through National Highway 1K
The Sieu stream flowing through National Highway 1K (Tan Dong Hiep ward section) is also a serious localized flooding point recently. In 2016, the locality began implementing a project to renovate the drainage system with a total length of 3,580 m here. However, due to compensation and site clearance problems, by 2024, the project had only completed 1,811m.
The middle section is 1,659m long and part of the last section is still unable to be constructed due to lack of land. This bottleneck causes water to rise every time there is heavy rain, pouring into the middle of National Highway 1K, causing flooding.

When it rains heavily, floodwaters flow through National Highway 1K, causing danger to people traveling. There have been cases of being swept away by water. People living in low-lying areas were also flooded into their houses.
Recently, after site clearance, at the end of June 2025, the authorities decided to continue the emergency construction of the sewer section across National Highway 1K.

The project contractor is Dai Phong Company, this unit has actively cleared the ground, built temporary bridges, and divided traffic lanes. The construction method will place 24m of the ice covering National Highway 1K. After that, the main road will be returned and construction of the two-way traffic will begin...
Despite difficulties in implementation during the rainy season, the contractor is trying to implement on schedule to eliminate the fear of flooding for the people.
