Landslides from river to sea
According to Lao Dong Newspaper, the Go Cong sea dike in Tien Giang province (old), now Dong Thap province, has completed more than 8.8km of wave-reducing dykes, and more than 6.8km has not been invested in. Due to not being closed, many sections on the route have been degraded by waves. In addition, the loss of protective forests is also threatening the safety of this dike.
Mr. Doan Van Tam - a resident of the Go Cong sea dike (Tan Phu hamlet, Go Cong Dong commune, Dong Thap province) - said that every year when the wind is strong, the waves hit directly, causing some sections to deteriorate. "If the dike is eroded, sea water will flood in, directly affecting the people's agricultural production areas," Mr. Tam worried.

In Tan Phu Dong commune (Dong Thap province), Mr. Vo Van Phung said that his family has about 1.3 hectares of land located next to the Tien River. However, landslides have recently washed away most of the area, currently only about 6,000 m2. The landslides have now approached the edge of the fields, causing people to worry, not daring to continue farming or aquaculture, forcing them to leave their land empty.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dong Thap province, from the beginning of the year to October 30, 2025, there were 19 landslides on the banks of the Tien River with a total length of about 2,250m, affecting 80 houses. Of which, 24 houses completely collapsed. In addition, there were 139 landslides and subsidence cases in the fields with a total length of 22,912m, collapsing 1 house, with total estimated damage of about 272.45 billion VND.

In An Giang, along the Hau River bank in Phu Thanh Hamlet (Phu Huu Commune), landslides have occurred close to rural roads, directly threatening people's travel.
Ms. Le Thi Phi (57 years old) - residing in Phu Thanh hamlet, Phu Huu commune, one of the households that had to be urgently evacuated due to landslides - said that before, her house was quite far from the Hau river bank, so her family always thought it was safe: "A few days ago, I heard teeth splashing, and the ground cracked. The authorities mobilized evacuation on the same day. The whole family only had time to pack a few clothes and documents to run to build a temporary house on the relatives' land".
Proposal to invest in anti-landslide embankments
Mr. Bui Thanh Tung - Head of the Economic Department of Go Cong Dong Commune (Dong Thap Province) - said that in the sections where no tides have been built, the waves will reduce waves every time there is a strong wind, the waves will directly hit the main dike project, causing it to deteriorate. Waves overflowing the dike also affect rice cultivation of many households in the area.
Mr. Tung said that the locality hopes that the authorities will soon consider investing in the remaining dike section, in order to close the entire route and protect the Go Cong sea dike.
Mr. Duong Vuong Dao - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Go Cong Dong Commune, (Dong Thap Province) - informed that recently, a serious landslide has occurred in the island area in Tan Phu Dong Commune. Many sections were eroded from 5 to 10m deep, causing loss of production land and directly affecting people's lives. Some households are facing the risk of losing their land, especially affecting shrimp farming areas.
"The locality recommends that the relevant agencies prioritize investment in handling hot spots and building protective embankments to limit activities that increase landslides," said Mr. Dao.

Mr. Tran Thanh Nghi - Chairman of Phu Huu Commune People's Committee (An Giang Province) - said that the locality has proposed the Provincial People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment of An Giang Province to consider allocating funds to build a solid embankment to prevent long-term landslides.
