At the meeting with the Standing Committee of the Da Nang City Party Committee (on March 13), Politburo member and Standing Secretary of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu proposed that Da Nang focus on implementing Resolution 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, enhancing training of high-quality human resources, attracting leading scientists and experts.
Mr. Tran Cam Tu believes that Da Nang will maximize its strengths, becoming a center for startups and innovation in Vietnam and the region.
This is not the first time the Politburo has affirmed Da Nang's central position and leading role in the Central region.
Da Nang not only has a "central" position, a prime location of the S-shaped strip of land, but is also an economic, cultural and scientific and technological core, playing a key role in the inter-regional development strategy and international integration. With priority policies from the Central Government, along with unique geographical advantages, the city is striving to become a symbol of dynamism and creativity, leading the North Central and Central Coast regions towards a sustainable development future.
Firm legal foundation for development
Da Nang is oriented to develop based on an important system of legal documents, demonstrating the strategic vision of the Party and State. Resolution No. 26-NQ/TW of the Politburo affirms Da Nang as a "key driving force" in regional linkages, promoting cooperation between the Central provinces to synchronously develop the socio-economy, and enhance national defense and security potential. The goal by 2030 is to build Da Nang into a modern, smart city, maintaining its role as a "pillar" of the region.
Resolution 43-NQ/TW aims to build Da Nang into a smart city, a leading economic, logistics and tourism center in the region by 2030, towards an ecological and modern city by 2045. Conclusion 79-KL/TW creates new motivation for Da Nang to continue to have appropriate action plans, setting out steps in the right direction with a strong breakthrough mindset.
The 2021-2030 National Master Plan affirms Da Nang as one of the key growth drivers of the North Central and Central Coast regions, associated with the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC). Vietnam's seaport planning until 2030 orients investment in developing Lien Chieu port into an international logistics center, connecting the global supply chain. Vietnam's tourism planning until 2030 identifies Da Nang as an important destination, focusing on developing high-class sea tourism, cultural tourism - heritage and MICE tourism.
Economic drivers from technology and innovation
It will take hundreds of years to have Da Nang - a modern city, with more than 1 million people as it is today. Especially the efforts for innovation and development after 50 years of national reunification.
Da Nang is in a rare strategic location, a gateway connecting North - South - International. Lien Chieu and Tien Sa ports are two deep-water seaports, welcoming heavy-duty ships, directly connecting to international shipping routes. Location on the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) helps the city become a bridge between Vietnam and Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, opening up opportunities for cross-border cooperation. Da Nang International Airport has been upgraded to welcome 20 million visitors/year, while ensuring national security and defense as an important air base.
In 2024, Da Nang's GRDP will increase by 7.51%, leading per capita income in the Central region. Industry - Services account for 90% of the economic structure, with breakthrough projects. Da Nang High-Tech Park attracts many large corporations, forming a creative startup ecosystem, focusing on AI, IoT and automation. Da Nang orients the development of digital financial services, fintech and blockchain. The free trade zone under Resolution 136/2023/QH15 of the National Assembly is expected to exempt and reduce taxes for FDI enterprises, promoting cross-border trade.
Da Nang has affirmed itself as a center of science, when Da Nang University is in the top 10 leading universities in Vietnam, cooperating with many international schools. The project of a smart city in education is deployed, applying digital technology to management and teaching.
