Regarding the incident in which people in Quang Tung commune (Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province) are worried about their gardens and land being swallowed by the "river god", on October 26, Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Trach district Phan Van Thanh said that he had grasped the situation and was in the process of making a petition.
"We have collected and proposed the embankment section for public investment in the 2025-2030 period of the district," said Mr. Thanh.
Mr. Thanh informed that landslides in the area not only occurred in Quang Tung commune but also in many places in the district such as Lien Truong, Phu Hoa, Canh Hoa communes. Therefore, the need to build embankments to prevent erosion is quite high.
A representative of the Quang Binh Agriculture and Rural Development Construction Investment Project Management Board said that they have not yet received any proposals from the locality. If the locality finds it necessary and urgent and has a written proposal, the Project Management Board will review and submit the proposal to higher levels.
As Lao Dong Newspaper reported, in recent years, people in Quang Tung commune (Quang Trach district) have been worried because their gardens and land are being swallowed by the "river god".
The Roon River originates from the Hoanh Son range and flows into the sea, passing through many communes, including Quang Tung and Quang Phu communes (Quang Trach district).
The embankment runs through Quang Tung commune for about 2.5km. This is the source of irrigation water for agriculture and aquaculture.
However, in recent years, erosion and landslides have made people worried as the river bank has been swallowed by the "river god" for about 9 - 10m, close to the land in the red books of many households located right next to the shore.
Vice Chairman of Quang Tung Commune People's Committee Trinh Anh Tuan said that this landslide has been happening for many years, concentrated in Di Luan and Phuc Kieu villages.
Since the anti-erosion embankment on the Quang Phu side was built, the flow has strongly encroached on the Quang Tung side, causing a lot of erosion on the right river bank.
The Roon River landslide problem has affected about 30 households in Phuc Kieu village and more than 100 households in Di Luan village. Some houses have even collapsed into residential land, greatly affecting the safety of the people.
Local people and authorities hope that all levels and sectors will pay attention and invest in building embankments to ensure a safe life for local people.
