In Son La, as of June 12, African swine fever has broke out in 19 groups and villages of 13 communes, wards and towns in 4 districts and cities of Son La province, including: Van Ho district, Yen Chau, Muong La and Son La city.
The total number of sick pigs that had to be destroyed was 257 with a total weight of 9,467kg.
In Son La city, from June 2-10, Son La city recorded 3 new outbreaks of African swine fever in Co Puc village (Chieng Ngan commune), Ut Luong village (Chieng Co commune) and Ne To village (Hua La commune).
The People's Committee of Son La City has issued a decision to announce the African swine fever in the above 3 communes, and at the same time directed the implementation of emergency measures to contain and handle outbreaks.
In response to the complicated developments of the African swine fever epidemic, on June 11, the People's Committee of Son La province issued Official Letter No. 2876/UBND-KT directing relevant units to focus on implementing drastic measures to prevent, combat and completely handle African swine fever outbreaks in the province.
On June 13, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary Medicine and Fisheries (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment) of Son La province said that Son La province has established a Steering Committee for animal disease prevention at the provincial and district levels to mobilize resources and the participation of all levels and sectors to implement solutions to prevent African swine fever.
At the same time, develop an epidemic prevention and control plan, organize the implementation of measures to prevent and control African swine fever according to regulations.
"We have coordinated to collect samples to monitor the epidemic and serve epidemic prevention and quarantine. In addition, 1,500 doses of vaccine were injected, 13,700 liters of chemicals were sprayed with disinfectants... At the same time, inspection and guidance on epidemic prevention work at outbreaks" - Mr. Toan said.
In Lang Son province, African swine fever has broke out in 55 communes and wards of 5 districts and cities, including: Lang Son city, Chi Lang district, Van Lang, Loc Binh and Huu Lung district.
According to a report from the Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment) of Lang Son province, from the beginning of 2025 to June 12, the whole province recorded outbreaks in 428 households in 136 villages, spread over 61 communes of 10 districts and cities. The total number of pigs forced to be destroyed is up to 1,293, with a total weight of nearly 69,000kg.
In the face of the above situation, localities with epidemics are urgently implementing measures to contain, control, and handle outbreaks.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lang Son province has directed provincial-level specialized units to coordinate with the Agricultural Service Centers of districts, cities and local authorities to carry out disinfection, spray lime powder, and destroy infected pigs in accordance with regulations.
In addition, the provincial agricultural and environmental sector also ensures adequate supply of chemicals to handle outbreaks in a timely manner, while continuing to take samples to monitor and widely review high-risk areas to prevent the spread.
Localities are advised to continue to propagate people to raise awareness of disease prevention, not slaughter, transport sick pigs and dead pigs out of the epidemic area, and ensure biosafety in livestock farming.
