On May 25, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province held a ceremony to receive the remains of Vietnamese volunteer martyrs who died in the Lao People's Democratic Republic, in the second phase of the 2024-2025 dry season.
In this phase, the Military Region 2 Martyrs' Tomb Collection Team handed over 8 martyrs' remains to Dien Bien province at Tay Trang International Border Gate. Immediately after the handover ceremony, the remains of the martyrs were returned to the Tong Khao Martyrs' Cemetery (Thanh Nghia Commune, Dien Bien District).
Along the travel route, many officers, soldiers of the armed forces, people and students in the area stood on both sides of the road, expressing their gratitude and deep gratitude, welcoming the heroic martyrs back to their motherland and the Fatherland.
The ceremony to receive martyrs' remains has profound political and humanistic significance, demonstrating the morality of "When drinking water, remember its source", " since gratitude" and the close bond between Vietnam and Laos.
According to the plan, the memorial service and burial of 7 martyrs will be held on the morning of May 26 at Tong Khao Martyrs' Cemetery (1 martyr's remains will be handed over to Ha Giang province).
Tong Khao Martyrs' Cemetery is the resting place of the Vietnamese volunteer army performing international missions fighting and sacrificing in the friendly country of Laos.
The cemetery covers an area of 1.6 hectares; with 2,978 graves (479 empty graves). Of which, 983 graves were identified (690 graves with full information; 293 graves with partial information); 1,516 graves were not identified.
