Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on December 3, Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat - Director of the Department of Home Affairs of Dien Bien province said that preparations for the election of 16th National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels for the 2026-2031 term are being actively implemented.
Accordingly, 45/45 commune-level Party Committees have established an Election Steering Committee and issued an Election Leadership Plan. At the same time, 45/45 People's Committees at the commune level have agreed with the People's Council and the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee at the same level to establish an Election Committee.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tien Dat, the expected number of National Assembly deputies in Dien Bien province is 7. The total number of provincial People's Council delegates expected to elect 50 delegates (from 11 electing units) and commune-level People's Council is 928 delegates (267 electing units).
However, through the review of the People's Committees of communes and wards, most units currently do not have ballot boxes and seals.
According to Mr. Le Van Luong - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Chairman of the Election Committee of Dien Bien province, implementing the streamlining of the apparatus, from March 1, 2025, the workload of the Department of Home Affairs (after the merger) will be very large.
However, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Dien Bien province affirmed that the province is very determined and has a scientific organization method to prepare for the election.
"Try to stick to the province's plan. We must standardize from the beginning, closely follow the grassroots, absolutely do not let errors happen" - Mr. Le Van Luong said.
To solve a large amount of work, Mr. Luong said that it is necessary to arrange a Working Group to regularly handle issues related to election work. At the same time, it is required to grasp the situation of the grassroots and provide timely information in communes and wards to avoid falling into a passive situation.

According to the Director of the Department of Home Affairs, the province will focus on promoting propaganda, creating a vibrant competitive atmosphere. Strengthen the work of ensuring political security and social order and safety.
In particular, the Home Affairs sector is urgently reviewing facilities, making budget allocations to rebuild ballot boxes, engrave and print documents for the election Mr. Dat emphasized.

Previously, on November 28, 2025, the Election Committee of Dien Bien province held a conference to disseminate and deploy direct and online election work to 45 commune and ward connecting points.
