The Ministry of Transport issued Decision No. 48/QD-BGTVT dated January 16, 2025 approving local adjustments to the Da Nang International Airport Planning for the period up to 2030.
According to the decision, the cargo terminal, cargo yard and parking lot will be planned in the northern area of the airport, adjacent to the regulating lake, with an area of about 2.46 hectares; meeting the capacity of about 100,000 tons/year.
Other construction items are kept unchanged according to Decision No. 3066/QDBGTVT dated August 26, 2015 of the Minister of Transport.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam is responsible for presiding over and coordinating with relevant agencies to manage and implement planning in accordance with current regulations; reviewing and completing planning documents and drawings to ensure compliance with approved planning content and appraisal opinions of the Department of Planning and Investment.
During the implementation of the planning, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and related units continue to review the planning of the works to propose adjustments and supplements to suit the needs of exploitation and development investment; update the adjusted content during the planning process for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050.
In the next implementation steps, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam and relevant units will continue to review, calculate and determine technical factors to ensure reasonableness, make adjustments and handle contents within their authority, and report to the Ministry of Transport for consideration of contents beyond their authority.
Previously (November 2024), Da Nang International Airport said that key projects to be implemented in 2025 still face some difficulties and problems.
In 2025, Da Nang International Airport will implement three key projects: building a cargo terminal, building infrastructure in the north of the airport, and expanding terminal T1.
In particular, the cargo terminal project was approved by the People's Committee of Da Nang City to be built in 2022 on an area of over 28,745.9m2, with a capacity of 100,000 tons of cargo/year.
The project has a total investment of 350 billion VND with development investment capital from Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV). Currently, the total investment adjustment (600 billion VND) is being proposed. It is expected that in the third quarter of 2026, the cargo terminal will be completed and put into use.
At that time, Mr. Phan Kieu Hung - Director of Da Nang International Airport - said: "During the design implementation process, there were some reserve land areas that were not included in the investment decision. To ensure the capacity of 100,000 tons/year, after consulting, researching, surveying and evaluating, the local planning must be adjusted by increasing the reserve land areas during the construction of this project".
