On October 30, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue (PCTT&TKCN) of Thua Thien Hue province said that it had issued an order to operate and regulate the Huong Dien hydropower reservoir (Huong Tra) and an order to operate and increase the flow of the Ta Trach reservoir (Huong Thuy).
According to the provincial Hydrometeorological Station, in the past 3 hours, there has been heavy rain and very heavy rain in Phong Dien, Quang Dien, A Luoi, Phu Vang districts, Huong Tra and Huong Thuy towns and Hue city.
Total rainfall from 7am to 10am on October 30th is generally 25 - 90mm, some places are higher such as Phong Dien 105.4mm, Dien Huong 106.2mm, Phong Dien town 106.4mm. Currently, there is continuing moderate rain, heavy rain, some places have very heavy rain.
In order to gradually lower the water level of the reservoir, increase the flood prevention capacity, and ensure the safety of the dam and the downstream area in the coming time, the Provincial Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Prevention and Control requests to adjust the flow rate of the Ta Trach reservoir through the spillway and turbine with a gradually increasing flow rate, avoiding sudden changes of about 350 - 700m3/s. Adjust the operation depending on the actual flow rate to the reservoir. The time to gradually increase the flow rate is at 2:00 p.m. on October 30.
Similarly, operate and regulate Huong Dien hydropower reservoir through spillway and turbine with gradually increasing flow, avoiding sudden changes of about 400 - 700m3/s. Adjust operation depending on actual flow to the reservoir. Time to gradually increase flow at 3:00 p.m. on the same day.
The Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue noted that localities downstream of Ta Trach and Huong Dien reservoirs strictly prohibit boating, firewood collection, fishing, etc. on rivers and lakes (except in special cases and with approval from competent authorities), and at the same time notify people to proactively prevent.
