On July 21, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, leaders of Hoai An Commune People's Committee (Gia Lai) confirmed that a light pole at a football field suddenly broke and fell in the area, killing an 11-year-old boy on the spot.
According to initial information, at about 8 am on the same day, a group of children were playing football at K. football field (Thanh Tu village). At this time, the light pole in the corner of the field showed signs of tilting.
Discovering the incident, an adult believed to be the coach of the children's group immediately shouted for the children to leave the dangerous area.
The children quickly dispersed to avoid the collapsed power pole. However, an 11-year-old boy (just finished 5th grade, on summer vacation) did not have time to run and was crushed by the power pole, dying on the spot.
According to the leader of Hoai An Commune People's Committee, after inspecting the scene, the power pole was broken horizontally near the base. Immediately after the incident, the locality directed functional agencies to inspect the operating conditions of the football field.
We have requested to temporarily suspend the operation of the entire football field and swimming pool in the area to review and inspect the safety assurance work during operation," said the leader of Hoai An Commune People's Committee.
The victim's body has been handed over to the family for funeral arrangements. Local authorities have also visited and encouraged the family.
Currently, the police agency is investigating and clarifying the cause of the incident.
