On the afternoon of November 22, present at the area below Doc Mieu spillway in Ke Go lake (Cam Due commune), Lao Dong Newspaper reporters recorded dozens of people setting fish in nets.
Through observation, some people caught large mermaids weighing from 12kg - 15kg, commonly fish weighing about 3kg.
Mr. Pham Dinh Van (born in 1972, residing in Thach Xuan commune) said that Doc Mieu spillway started closing at 1:00 p.m. on November 22.
At that time, many people in Cam Due commune (old Cam My commune) near Ke Go lake discovered it first, so they went out to catch a lot, some caught even fish, but he stayed away, and only caught about 30kg late.
"People who arrived early caught big fish, including those weighing more than 10kg," Mr. Van shared.
Recently, due to prolonged rain, Ke Go Lake has been overflowing. After the end of the rain, from the afternoon of November 22, the operating unit closed the spillway and stopped discharging in Ke Go Lake.
In Ke Go Lake, in recent years, the authorities have released many fish species, most of which are mermaids, to restore aquatic resources.
When releasing the overflow, the fish follow the water flowing through the spillway and gather in an area like a large pond about 10m deep right under the spillway.
Knowing that this is a natural "fish pond", every time the spillway is closed, many people come here to catch fish to sell, bringing in millions of dong in just a few hours.
