On the afternoon of November 21, Mr. Pham Duy Thang - Head of the Traffic Infrastructure Management Department of Ha Tinh Department of Construction - said that the Ha Tinh coastal road at Km84+700 in Ky Xuan commune was the most serious landslide, causing complete traffic congestion.
In addition, many other sections on this coastal route also have potential risks of landslides.
Initially, the professional agency only calculated to clear the soil and rocks and build local retaining walls, but after a detailed survey, the consulting team member said that large-scale solutions needed to ensure long-term safety.
Mr. Thang shared that the Department of Construction is currently seeking the province's opinion on a comprehensive handling plan with a repair project. This includes digging the hill from the top, creating a muscle, lowering the embankment and building a retaining wall system of about 300m. In particular, the hill peach trees may have to move nearly 30,000m3 of soil to ensure long-term safety.
The Head of the Traffic Infrastructure Management Department of the Ha Tinh Department of Construction also informed that the responsible unit strives to implement the repair to be able to open the coastal road before the Lunar New Year 2026.
However, at this time, the specific date for the start of the landslide clearance work has not been determined.
As Lao Dong reported, heavy rain continued for a long time, so on the morning of November 4, at Km 84+700 of the coastal road of Ha Tinh in Ky Xuan commune, a landslide occurred, causing complete traffic congestion.
On the same afternoon, when the construction unit was leveling and releasing the landslide block to clear the route, the mountain suddenly continued to slide, tilting a excavator and a truck.
As a result, 2 workers (one excavator driver and one truck driver) were injured and had to be hospitalized for treatment.
After the incident, the Ha Tinh Department of Construction directed the implementation of road closures to ensure safety. During the road closure period, vehicles are allowed to divert and be guided to the bypass route.
In recent days, the weather has continued to rain, so the authorities have determined that it is not safe to clear rocks and soil and open the route.
