Green transformation - An important driving force to help businesses stand firm in the face of changes in the global market
In reality, the demand of international investors, consumers and major export markets is strongly shifting to responsible business models. Requirements for emission reduction and efficient resource use are no longer incentives but have become a mandatory technical barrier.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Finance Nguyen Duc Tam said that in the face of the wave of the 4.0 Industrial Revolution and the requirement for green growth, carbon neutrality, countries are changing strongly. This is a challenge but also an opportunity for businesses to reposition their positions. The Deputy Minister affirmed: For Vietnam, this is both a challenge and an opportunity for us to promote growth model innovation, enhance national competitiveness and affirm our position in the global value chain.
Participating in the event as one of the leading enterprises in sustainable development, Saigon Beer - Alcohol - Beverage Corporation (SABECO) brought a system-based perspective on green transformation for the entire FMCG and F&B industries.
SABECO considers sustainability as a strategic competitive advantage
In his speech, Mr. Larry Lee - Deputy General Director in charge of Strategic Assets & Sustainable Development of SABECO emphasized: "SABECO has 150 years of heritage, but future competitiveness depends on our own speed and determination for transformation".

With a large scale of operations and 25 breweries and more than 200,000 points of sale nationwide, every small improvement in ESG by SABECO creates a significant impact on the value chain and the community. SABECO's green transformation strategy is comprehensive and long-term, gradually realizing the goals that the whole industry is aiming for.
As of 2024, SABECO has achieved impressive figures proving the effectiveness of this strategy.
In terms of energy, the rate of renewable energy use in production reached 40.54%. The rooftop solar power system generates 7,843 MWh of clean electricity. Combined with optimal solutions, SABECO has cut greenhouse gas emissions by 9.3% (Range 1 & 2), reduced power intensity by more than 8% and improved emissions to 7.55 kg of CO2e/hl.
In water management, SABECO is one of the few pioneering enterprises using the "water risk map" to orient investment in areas at risk of drought. This shows that sustainable development here is not only compliance but also strategic risk management.
Regarding packaging use and recycling, SABECO has built a national-scale circular economic model. Currently, 100% of the main packaging can be recycled or reused. The rate of glass bottle recall is 75 80%, and the weight of aluminum cans has decreased by 15% compared to 2019.
These achievements not only demonstrate the determination to transform but also lay a solid foundation for long-term initiatives in the future.
At the Workshop, SABECO was also honored in the Top 50 Outstanding Enterprises for Sustainable Development, continuing to affirm the leading position of the enterprise in the journey to create a green future.
Long-term vision: Leading and Cooperating
Vietnam has a strong vision of green growth, creating momentum for both large and small enterprises to transform more effectively. As a leading enterprise in the industry, Mr. Larry shared more about SABECO's motto of action encapsulated in three sentences: "Lead when possible. Support when needed. Cooperate to create common value".

In the coming time, SABECO is committed to continuing to expand the scale of renewable energy and apply advanced energy saving solutions throughout the plant system. At the same time, businesses will focus on improving water resource management capacity and investing in long-term water supplementation projects. The circular economy strategy is also promoted through the sustainable packaging model and proactive implementation of the extended producer responsibility (EPR) regulation. In particular, SABECO affirmed that it will cooperate closely with the Government and partners to replicate successful models, demonstrating its leading role and creating a driving force for the green transformation process of the entire industry.
SABECO said that the company believes that with a synchronous policy, a solid ESG platform and the cooperation of the business community, Vietnam can not only achieve the Net Zero goal, but can also become a pioneer in the sustainable FMCG model in the region.
