On the morning of June 29, in Cao Lanh City, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee of Dong Thap province solemnly held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's Decision to recognize "Completing the task of building new rural areas in 2024".
The ceremony was honored to be attended and shared by Mr. Le Minh Hoan - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly.
Also attending were Mr. Le Quoc Phong - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Mr. Phan Van Thang - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Mr. Tran Tri Quang - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee and many leaders and former leaders of Dong Thap province through the periods.
Dong Thap implemented the new rural construction program in 2011 with many difficulties, such as: Low starting point, weak infrastructure, high poverty rate (14.05%), average income per capita of only over 12 million VND/person/year, each commune is only on average 7.16 new rural criteria... However, with high determination, under the strong direction of the Provincial Party Committee and the spirit of serious implementation, responsibility of the Provincial People's Committee, the entire political system of Dat Sen Hong has been flexible and creative in developing plans, organizing implementation... Thereby gradually overcoming difficulties, achieving many positive results. Notably, the mobilization and explanation for people to voluntarily donate more than 867,700 m2 of land, contribute more than VND 5,267 billion, millions of working days to renovate and repair 1,856 bridges, 3,076 km of roads, 632 km of canals and 257 km to light up rural roads.
These knowing numbers not only reflect consensus but are also a vivid testament to the spirit of self-management and self-reliance of the community. From there, the socio-economic picture has changed positively, the scale of GRDP in 2024 reached more than VND122,700 billion, 3 times higher than in 2011, ranking 6th in the Mekong Delta; the average GRDP growth reached 5.66%/year, of which agriculture - forestry - fishery increased by 4.15%, industry - construction increased by 7.5%, services increased by 6.31%; average income in rural areas reached more than 68 million VND/person/year, among the leading groups in the region; the poverty rate decreased to 1.08%, expected to be 0.88% in 2025.
At the same time, many new models and creative ways of doing things have appeared increasingly synchronously and have strong influence: Hoi ban, Smart Village, agricultural tourism, ecological rice production associated with Red-crowned Cranes conservation, model roads, livable villages, non-garbage rivers, digital transformation routes. Thereby creating a spectacular transformation, taking Dong Thap to the Mekong Delta to lead in the number of OCOP products, with 581 products recognized (01 5-star products, 116 4-star products), affirming the program's role in promoting rural economy, exploiting cultural values - local products...
Thereby, helping Dong Thap complete 08/08 contents according to the provisions of Decisions 321/QD-TTg and 125/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister on regulating provinces and centrally run cities to complete the task of building new rural areas in the period of 2021 - 2025. Specifically, 100% of districts meet new rural standards; 100% of cities complete new rural tasks (Cao Lanh, Hong Ngu, Sa Dec); the rate of districts meeting advanced new rural standards reaches 22.22% (Cao Lanh, Thap Muoi districts) - exceeding the minimum of 20% as prescribed; the rate of communes meeting advanced new rural standards reaches 50.87% (58/114 communes) - higher than the requirement of 40%, all communes fully meet the new criteria.

With that outstanding achievement, on June 26, 2025, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed a recognition of Dong Thap province "Completing the task of building new rural areas in 2024. This is the third locality in the Mekong Delta to achieve this title.
On this occasion, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province awarded many Certificates of Merit to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in building Dong Thap province to meet new rural standards.
