On September 23, Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Thien - Vice Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee - signed Official Dispatch No. 3171/UBND-KT directing agencies and localities to proactively respond to and overcome the consequences of high tides, floods, heavy rain and landslides in the area. According to forecasts from the hydrometeorological agency, the natural disaster situation from now until the end of 2026 will still have many complicated developments.
It is expected that there will be about 4-5 storms or tropical depressions operating in the East Sea, of which 1-3 will directly affect our mainland. Notably, Dong Thap province will welcome 07 high tides. Among them, 3 waves appearing on September 25, October 10 and October 24 are highly likely to coincide with the inter-field rainy season.
The highest tides in the year are forecast to be concentrated at the end of November and December 2026. Regarding flood water levels, the peak flood in the upstream area is forecast to appear in the first half of October 2026, at a level 0.1 - 0.2m higher than alarm level I. Especially in the inner Thap Muoi area, the peak flood is likely to appear at the end of October 2026 and reach alarm level II - III. The combination of floods, high tides and widespread heavy rain is likely to cause serious flooding in low-lying areas, the Tien River riverside area, the area outside the dyke, the Southwest area and the downstream of the province. This situation directly threatens agricultural production, aquaculture, transportation and people's lives.
To ensure the safety of people's lives and property, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province requests Heads of departments, agencies, and Chairmen of People's Committees of communes and wards to absolutely not be negligent or subjective. Units must strictly maintain a 24/24 hour duty regime to firmly grasp the situation and promptly advise on handling arising incidents.
The Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province is responsible for coordinating to inspect and review the safety of the dyke, embankment, culvert, and pumping station system; guiding people to urgently harvest the area of rice, crops, and aquatic products that have reached maturity to minimize damage. The Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Police maintain forces and vehicles according to the "4 on-site" motto, ready to rescue, rescue, and support the evacuation of people from deep flooded and landslide areas; and at the same time ensure security and order and traffic safety. Project Management Boards and investors must accelerate the construction progress of traffic and irrigation works, handle landslides and have solutions to ensure safety against overflows. Local authorities at commune and ward levels strengthen information warnings, mobilize people to proactively reinforce houses, raise property, ensure the safety of domestic electricity systems and prepare plans to relocate people when dangerous situations exceed the ability to respond on the spot occur.
