In the afternoon of June 15, monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning data showed that convective cloud areas are developing strongly, causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas of wards and communes such as Binh Tien, Binh Hoa, Tan Hung, Hiep Binh, Tam Binh, Thu Duc, Long Binh, Binh Khanh, Can Gio...
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above-mentioned areas, and at the same time tend to expand to neighboring areas.
Common rainfall is from 5-15 mm, in some places over 20 mm. During thunderstorms, it is necessary to watch out for tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Heavy rain in a short time can cause localized flooding in low-lying areas.
The cause of thunderstorms is due to the southwest monsoon operating with weak to moderate intensity. Above, the subtropical high pressure has its axis passing through the South Central region, combined with the high-altitude wind convergence zone that is maintained.
According to the Southern Regional Hydrometeorological Station, in the next 24-48 hours, the low pressure trough with an axis of about 23-26 degrees North latitude connected to the low pressure area in the West will continue to be compressed and gradually pushed south by the continental high pressure mass in the North. Above, the subtropical high pressure through the South Central region is operating stably; the Southwest monsoon maintains a weak to moderate intensity, while the convergence of winds at high altitude continues to exist.
From now until about 10 days, the low pressure trough passing through the North will tend to gradually fill up. From about June 19, a low pressure trough with an axis of about 25-28 degrees North latitude will be formed connecting to the hot low pressure area in the West and gradually expanding to the Southeast. Above, the subtropical high pressure passing through the South Central Coast - South will be more active and gradually encroaching to the West; from about June 21, the high pressure axis will slowly move northward, then weaken and gradually withdraw to the East.
Due to the impact of the above weather patterns, the Southern region in the coming days will continue to experience showers and thunderstorms in some places; especially in the late afternoon and evening, there will be scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain.
