On the afternoon of June 4, Lam Dong General Hospital said that in just the first 3 days of June, the unit received 4 members of the same family in Xuan Truong ward - Da Lat hospitalized for emergency treatment after eating mushrooms picked in the pine forest.
Mr. H.L. (68 years old), one of the patients, said that his relatives had picked a basket of mushrooms in the forest and brought it home to process for the whole family.
This type of mushroom is often called "buffalo liver mushroom" by local people, and appears a lot under the pine canopy in the rainy season.
However, about 2 hours after the meal, family members successively developed symptoms such as: abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea and were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
Currently, 3 people have been discharged from the hospital, and 1 case is still being monitored and treated.
Not only this family, but for more than 1 month, medical facilities in Lam Dong have also recorded many cases of poisoning related to the use of self-harvested forest mushrooms.
Doctor Nguyen Ky Son, Deputy Director of Lam Dong General Hospital, said that it is very difficult to distinguish poisonous mushrooms and edible mushrooms with the naked eye. Many types of poisonous mushrooms have shapes and colors similar to healthy mushrooms, even growing interspersed in the same area.
According to Dr. Son, mushroom poisoning can cause mild digestive disorders, but with mushrooms containing strong toxins, patients are at risk of liver damage, acute kidney failure, multiple organ failure, and even death if not treated promptly.
