Exploiting the potential of the caldera
According to the Gia Lai Department of Industry and Trade, after completing procedures on land, environment, and planning, some renewable energy projects in the area will be constructed.
The areas of Ia Rsai, Uar, Chu Se, Ayun Pa, Phu Tuc... have high sunshine hours, and are identified as key areas for solar power development in the province.
Recently, in Ka To hamlet, Ia Rsai commune, Trang Duc Solar Energy Joint Stock Company started construction of Trang Duc Solar Power Plant. The project has a capacity of 39.2MW, total capital of 900 billion VND, deployed on an area of about 55ha.
In this area, there are also two large-scale solar power projects, Krong Pa Solar Power Plant and Chu Ngoc - EVNLICOGI16 Solar Power Plant. The Chu Ngoc - EVNLICOGI16 Solar Power Plant project has a total investment of more than 941.7 billion VND, average electricity output of about 52. 911MWh/year, land use area of 48ha.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Que - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - requested the investor to pay attention to prioritizing local labor recruitment; actively participate in social security work; contribute to building a stable and sustainable investment environment, harmonizing interests between businesses and localities.
The lake not only provides water but also electricity
In June 2026, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee approved the investment policy and investors for 2 large-scale floating solar power projects. This is the first time Gia Lai has deployed floating solar power in the lake area. The projects have been appraised, in which the top requirement is not to cause environmental pollution, ensuring water safety for people's living and production.
Kanak floating solar power plant is invested by Power Generation Corporation 2 - JSC (EVNGENCO2), implemented in Kbang commune. The project has a designed capacity of 40MW, electricity output in the first year is about 71,770MWh, total estimated investment of more than 779 billion VND, of which the investor's contributed capital accounts for 30%, and loans from credit institutions account for 70%.
The Plei Tho Ga 2 floating solar power plant project combined with a storage battery system is invested by Plei Tho Ga Energy Joint Stock Company, with a designed capacity of 20MW, electricity output of about 37,995MWh/year.
The total estimated investment is 450 billion VND, of which the investor's contributed capital accounts for 20%, and mobilized capital accounts for 80%. The project's operating term is 50 years.
Gia Lai provincial authorities require investors to commit not to use cleaning chemicals during operation; prioritize applying automatic dry cleaning robots or using RO purified water to clean the panels, in order to protect water quality. Investors must install automatic water quality monitoring systems, conduct periodic monitoring and share monitoring data with state management agencies.
Investors also commit to using machinery and equipment with clear origins; applying advanced technology, not belonging to the list of outdated technology causing environmental pollution.
According to the Adjustment of Power Plan VIII, Gia Lai is expected to develop about 9,657.1MW of renewable energy, including wind power, solar power and hydropower.
Currently, the province is completing procedures to select investors. According to the plan, by 2026, Gia Lai will bid for 57 wind power, solar power, small hydropower and biomass power projects, with a total capacity of more than 3,000MW.
