Gia Lai prevents labor accidents at pig farm projects

THANH TUẤN |

Gia Lai - With a series of pig farm projects operating and under construction, the province requires strengthening labor safety assurance.

Prevention of incidents and labor accidents

On August 3, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested functional sectors and investors of pig farms to strengthen ensuring safety, occupational hygiene, and prevent accidents.

Recently, a serious labor accident occurred in the waste collection and treatment area of a pig farm in Thanh Hoa province, causing public concern.

Currently, livestock activities in Gia Lai province are developing strongly, with a total pig herd of about 1.73 million heads, 308 livestock investment projects and 884 projects and farm-scale livestock facilities are operating. In which, many facilities have biogas digester systems, storage tanks and waste collection and treatment works that pose a risk of unsafety if operated and maintained not according to procedures.

Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requests the Department of Agriculture and Environment to guide businesses and livestock investors to operate waste treatment systems, biogas digesters, storage tanks, manholes and areas at risk of toxic gas generation according to regulations; ensuring safety for workers during operation, maintenance, and repair.

People's Committees of communes and wards notify and remind livestock farm owners in the area to raise awareness of prevention; not to let workers arbitrarily go down to pits, tanks, and waste pits when safety conditions are not ensured; proactively develop appropriate incident handling and rescue plans.

Livestock breeding attracts huge capital

According to statistics from the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment, livestock projects are mainly concentrated in the western part of the province with more than 232 projects, a total area of more than 7,337 hectares, and a total construction investment of nearly 40,600 billion VND.

With the above number of projects, Gia Lai is currently leading the country in attracting investment in industrial-scale pig farms.

Currently, the provincial government is focusing on developing a large-scale farm farming model, applying high technology, ensuring disease safety, food safety, environmental protection and linking according to the value chain.

Thousands of hectares of stunted, underdeveloped rubber land in the province are also oriented and encouraged for businesses to switch to implementing high-tech livestock projects, actively contributing to socio-economic development.

For sustainable development, Gia Lai prioritizes using bad land funds, barren land, far from residential areas to expand livestock farming, and at the same time focuses on developing in 7 key livestock farming areas that have been planned.
