Recorded at km1717 + 513 National Highway 1 (Ham Kiem commune, Ham Thuan Nam district, Binh Thuan) intersecting with the access road to Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway and Ham Kiem - Tien Thanh road creates many directions of traffic at this location.
The authorities have stated that this location is a “conflict” point because the traffic flows overlap and have to avoid each other. Meanwhile, the traffic volume from Ba Bau intersection to National Highway 1 and vice versa is very high, especially on weekends and holidays.
A reader provided a dashcam clip of his car nearly colliding with another vehicle at this location and luckily he was able to react in time.
The car was traveling on National Highway 1 in the direction of Phan Thiet - Dong Nai, when it reached the intersection above, suddenly a tractor-trailer from the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway crossed National Highway 1. Discovering the incident, the car swerved to the opposite side of the road, fortunately not colliding with another vehicle and avoiding the accident.
In addition, this location also has fatal accidents when dump trucks turn onto the highway ramp, collide with motorbikes traveling in the same direction, on the side, and many other accidents.
Faced with the above problems, from the proposal of the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province, recently, the Minister of Transport has decided to approve and adjust the feasibility study report of the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay expressway project, part of the project to build a number of expressway sections on the North - South eastern route, phase 2017-2020.
According to this approved Decision, the design solution for the connecting route intersection (access road to the expressway) with National Highway 1 (mentioned above) is to adjust the form of a three-way intersection into an intersection with 4 branches entering and exiting National Highway 1 from the connecting route and the new Ham Kiem - Tien Thanh route, each branch has 2 lanes.
Build an overpass on National Highway 1 with a scale of 4 lanes; arrange a roundabout intersection under the overpass and expand the existing Suoi Sop bridge (overpass for National Highway 1, the intersection from the highway below has a roundabout).
The design solution for Phan Thiet intersection is to add a right turn from the highway at Phan Thiet intersection with a length of 1.2 km and a scale of 2 lanes.
