Hanoi invests in and upgrades electric buses to replace fossil fuel buses, reduce pollution, and aim to develop green transportation.

According to the plan, in April 2026, Hanoi City will replace a series of old fossil fuel buses with new generation electric buses.

Director of Hanoi City Traffic Management and Operation Center - Mr. Thai Ho Phuong said that implementing Plan No. 149/KH-UBND dated May 28, 2025 of Hanoi City People's Committee on implementing the Project on developing a public transport system by electric and green-energy buses, the city is gradually promoting the conversion of vehicles towards modernity, environmental friendliness, contributing to improving service quality and reducing urban air pollution.

From April 1, 2026, through bidding, Hanoi City put into operation 10 electric bus routes with a total of 288 vehicles, marking an important step in the roadmap for developing green public transport.

According to the plan, from April 3, 2026, bus route No. 74 will be supplemented with 33 electric buses to put into operation. Previously, on March 30, 2026, Hanoi City put an additional 170 electric buses into operation on 11 routes, thereby increasing the total number of electric bus routes to 39 routes with 683 vehicles, accounting for 35% of the total number of vehicle convoys.

It is expected that by the end of April 30, 2026, the total number of electric and green-energy buses in Hanoi City will reach 822 vehicles, including 683 electric buses and 139 CNG-using vehicles, accounting for 42.1% of the total number of vehicles. This result shows Hanoi's determination in developing a sustainable public transport system, towards the goal of building a green, civilized, and modern city.
