The Traffic Police (CSGT) of Hanoi City Police is strengthening patrols and controls on roads and wharves and construction sites to strictly handle overloaded trucks with extended cargo beds.
On May 14, in an exchange with reporters, Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Luyen - Head of Road Traffic Police Team No. 9 (Hanoi City Police Traffic Police Department) - said that from the beginning of 2026 to now, the unit has made records of nearly 400 cases of truck violations. Among them, there are 318 cases of overloading, 34 cases of oversized and 23 cases of extending the truck bed. The total amount of fines paid to the State budget is more than 2 billion VND.

According to reporters' records on National Highway 32, the section passing through Son Tay (Hanoi), a task force of Road Traffic Police Team No. 9 led by Lieutenant Colonel La Son Tung stopped to inspect two tractor trucks with license plates 19H-121. xx pulling trailer 88RM-00. 7xx and 19A-785. xx pulling trailer 19RM-028. xx.
At the time of inspection, functional forces requested the driver to present documents related to the person, vehicle and invoices for transporting construction materials. However, both drivers said that the documents were kept by the vehicle owner. After that, the working group requested the vehicles to move to the electronic weighing station to check the load according to regulations.

Previously, on May 10, on the road leading to the sand dunes along the Red River in Hong Van commune (Hanoi), the working group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 8 led by Major Nguyen Manh Tuan stopped a series of "tiger trucks" showing signs of violation.
According to traffic police, many vehicles show signs of extending the cargo boxes, with separate logos attached to the front of the vehicles for identification. These vehicles mainly transport sand from riverside yards to construction sites. When inspected, many drivers could not present papers, citing the reason that the vehicle owner was holding them and continuously calling to ask for intervention.

Major Nguyen Manh Tuan said that actual inspection shows that many drivers try to delay the presentation of papers or ask people to intervene. Only when they cannot act, do drivers cooperate to bring their vehicles into the weighing area.
Through inspection, functional forces identified many vehicles with serious violations. Typically, trucks with license plates 29K-017. xx have their cargo boxes extended from 720 mm to 1.200 mm. For this violation, vehicle owners may be fined from 28-30 million VND, have their driver's license points deducted and have their inspection certificates revoked for 2 months. If they re-offend, the vehicle may be confiscated.

According to Major Tuan, there are currently many construction sites and projects under construction in the area, so the number of dump trucks, tractor trucks and trailers operating is increasing. Most vehicles from other provinces enter Hanoi to transport construction materials.
The unit conducts inspections and handles according to the spirit of no forbidden zones, no exceptions for acts of overloading, extending cargo beds, going into prohibited roads or letting materials fall and cause traffic unsafety," Major Tuan emphasized.
The Traffic Police Department of Hanoi City Police said that it will continue to maintain closed patrol teams 24/24 hours, and at the same time strengthen the supervision of the operation of trucks carrying construction materials to ensure traffic order and safety in the Capital.
