From 0:00 to 12:00 on September 24, 2025, 2 AI cameras piloted for installation on Pham Van Bach Street (Cau Giay Ward, Hanoi) automatically detected 1,452 cases of running red lights (1,339 motorbikes; 113 cars) and a series of other violations - this is the first information announced about the AI camera system installed in Hanoi's inner city.
As soon as the above information was given, many people expressed concern because they had "fulfills" the violation at the AI camera installation location. Sharing with PV of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Nam (Tu Liem, Hanoi) said that he was very surprised by the number of violations announced by the traffic police.
"Not only me but many others think that only cars are fined. After this time, I think people will comply more freely because the fines for violations such as running red lights and going in the wrong direction are very high" - Mr. Hoang Nam shared.
In fact, in the following days, the number of violations at the AI camera installation location on Pham Van Bach Street has decreased significantly. Most recently, on September 29, AI cameras detected only 169 cases of running red lights.
Or before that, from 12:00 on September 27 to 12:00 on September 28, the AI camera at km20 of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway recorded 2,390 vehicles passing through but did not detect any violations.
"Previously, the camera detected hundreds of violations of not wearing a seat belt and using a phone while driving... the above results show that drivers of vehicles participating in traffic have become much more aware. In the future, thousands of additional cameras will be installed on highways and routes nationwide" - said a representative of the Traffic Police Department.
According to the Traffic Police Department - Ministry of Public Security, up to now, AI cameras have identified more than 20 traffic violations and continue to be trained to identify many other behaviors. Compared to regular cameras, AI cameras are integrated with artificial intelligence, capable of analyzing, identifying and processing images and videos in real time, thereby improving the accuracy of detecting violations. The camera can also measure the speed of the vehicle, measure traffic volume to warn of congestion, adjust traffic light cycles...
The application of AI cameras to monitor and handle traffic violations is bringing positive changes. Not only does it help the authorities improve work efficiency but it also contributes to changing the awareness of traffic participants. Each step opens a new step forward in traffic management, towards building a more civilized, safe and modern traffic environment.
In Hanoi, in addition to the two AI cameras operating on Pham Van Bach Street, there is now another camera installed on Le Van Luong Street.
