National Highway 13 is one of the main traffic routes connecting to the central area of Ho Chi Minh City. Although 6 lanes have been built in Binh Duong area, the route is currently becoming narrow compared to the large volume of traffic. The section from Suoi Giua toll station to Vinh Binh bridge (Lai Thieu ward) is about 20km long and often experiences traffic congestion at intersections.
Notably, the section from Le Hong Phong intersection to Vinh Binh bridge, about 13km long, is being invested in and expanded from 6 to 8 lanes. The project was started in early 2022, but has not been completed yet. Along the project is a messy construction site, posing many potential accident risks to road users.
My Phuoc - Tan Van road is also a vital traffic route connecting many industrial parks and urban areas in the North of Ho Chi Minh City. The 64km long route has been in use since 2015. Of which, the nearly 40km section from Dinh Hoa roundabout to Cay Truong Industrial Park has been fully invested with 10 lanes. There are 6 lanes dedicated to cars and 4 lanes for mixed-use vehicles on both sides.
The section from Dinh Hoa roundabout to Tan Van intersection only has 6 lanes, without a hard median strip to hold the car lane with the lane for motorbikes and three-wheeled vehicles. The road is often congested at intersections and during rush hour. It is worth mentioning that many trucks and container trucks deliberately encroached on the motorbike lane to move. This is dangerous for motorcyclists, posing a high risk of accidents.
According to records, in recent days, traffic accidents have occurred on the two routes in a row. Notably, on the evening of November 11, an accident occurred between a motorbike and a truck on National Highway 13 through Chanh Hiep Ward, killing 1 person. On November 8, an accident occurred between a tractor-trailer truck and a motorbike on the My Phuoc - Tan Van road, killing 3 people...
A representative of Becamex Group said that the unit is completing legal procedures to transfer the implementation of the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 13. At the same time, wait for the authorities to complete site clearance. When the legal procedures are complete and the site is available, the contractor will speed up the completion of the National Highway 13 upgrade and expansion project.
For the My Phuoc - Tan Van route, according to Mr. Vo Khanh Hung - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the department has adjusted traffic organization on this route since November 14.
