People and businesses hope to expand charging stations
From July 1, 2026, Hanoi will limit gasoline motorbikes in the Ring Road 1 area. To meet the conversion requirements, the city aims to have a charging post by the end of 2026. For new projects, this rate is 30%. In that context, the need to expand the charging station system is becoming more urgent than ever.
After Hanoi announced the plan to limit gasoline-powered motorbikes, many people expressed their agreement with the policy and at the same time wanted to expand electric vehicle charging stations.
Mr. Nguyen Van Tam, a resident of Dong Da ward, shared that he has been using electric motorbikes for more than a year now. However, his apartment currently does not have electric vehicle charging stations. Therefore, he had to take advantage of charging through an agency or an acquaintance. He hopes that public areas such as parks and parking lots will have a systematic electric vehicle charging station so that people can use it with peace of mind.
Not only people but transportation businesses also recommend that Hanoi soon expand the network of charging stations, especially in the central area.
A representative of G7 taxi Company said that the transition to electric vehicles is an irreversible trend, but the important thing is that the infrastructure must keep up with it. The enterprise has invested in more electric vehicles. Currently, the basic network is guaranteed. However, to further expand, it is still necessary to develop the scale of the number of stations.
Many taxi businesses also want to expand charging stations to convert to electric vehicles. Informing Lao Dong Newspaper at the handover ceremony of the 7-seat Limo Green MPV on August 5, a representative of Lado Taxi said that the company currently has 2,000 gasoline taxis. Currently, the company has converted hundreds of vehicles to electric vehicles, of which the vehicles in Lam Dong have been completely replaced. At first, it was very difficult because of the lack of charging stations, but now the system is widely covered. In the coming time, this company will expand to other provinces if the charging station infrastructure meets the requirements.
Statistics in June 2025 show that V-Green Company has put into use 9,000 more electric vehicle charging ports nationwide. In Hanoi alone, many large-scale charging stations have come into operation such as 131 Nguyen Phong Sac station or Giap Bat bus station - all with 40 120kW charging ports. Some other highlights include station 2902S Yen Vien (70 charging ports), Minh Khai parking lot in Nhon area (84 charging ports).
In particular, V-Green has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with VietinBank, creating a credit package of VND4,000 billion with a preferential interest rate of 6.3%/year. Accordingly, charging station investors can borrow up to 70% of the total investment value for a maximum period of 5 years. This is a big boost to promote the socialization of the charging station system in Hanoi and across the country.
Need to plan systematically, avoid spontaneous development
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Dr. Khuong Kim Tao - former Deputy Chief of Office of the National Traffic Safety Committee - commented that developing electric vehicle charging stations needs to be one step ahead of schedule and standards.
According to Dr. Khuong Kim Tao, in addition to developing charging stations at specialized parking lots, Hanoi needs to mandatory regulations on the construction of charging stations in new housing projects, especially high-rise apartments. In addition, electric motorbike manufacturing units also need to coordinate to guide people to charge safely at home.
In Hanoi, Hanoi Parking Lot Exploitation Company is managing more than 150 parking lots. This unit has surveyed and preliminarily determined 40 locations where charging stations can be installed. The four proposed priority locations include: vacant land from 621 to 768 De La Thanh Street. Parking lot near the Russian Embassy, Kim Ma - Cau Giay intersection. Tran Chat Chan route from Bach Mai to Lac Nghiep. Land plot in front of the headquarters of Vietnam National Shipping Lines (Tan Commune - Giai Phong).
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Vinh - Deputy Director of the Company - the two locations at Tran Khat Chan and Xa Dan can be implemented immediately. The remaining two points need to wait for the completion of the Ring Road 1 project. In the long term, charging stations need to take into account diverse needs from individual users to taxis, electric buses, and delivery vehicles.
The Hanoi Department of Construction said that the whole city currently has about 1,000 charging stations, including 57 large-capacity stations and nearly 700 private stations using rotary electricity.
Hanoi is in the "golden" period to build sustainable electric vehicle infrastructure. To encourage vehicle conversion, the city needs to be ahead in planning and investment, creating motivation for people and businesses to accompany the goal of greening traffic.
