The Phu Quoc Culture, Sports and Communications Center (Kien Giang) has just organized a fishing net contest with fishermen. The contest attracted hundreds of fishermen in the area to watch and cheer.
5 teams, each team consisting of 2 members must do the net patching work that is very familiar to the people of the coastal areas. However, not only completing the patch, but the teams must also demonstrate their ingenuity, team spirit and knowledge and experience in the net patching process to complete it as soon as possible and most beautifully.
Ms. Thanh is one of the necessary skills for those working in the sea. Organizing a fishing net patching contest with fishermen also aims to honor the cultural values and traditional crafts of the pearl island.
Mr. Ho Dac Thuan, Head of the Organizing Committee of the contest, said: "This fish sauce festival has many activities, in which the Magpies contest with Phu Quoc fishermen took place very vibrantly, people came to watch and cheer enthusiastically. The contest not only contributes to honoring Phu Quoc fish sauce but also creates conditions for women to have a playground to exchange, for the audience to see and understand more about the seafood industry, about the efforts of those who make fish sauce through many processes".
The contest is also an opportunity for those who patch the net, "the back of the sea" to show the work imbued with the cultural identity of the sea.
Ms. Huynh Thi My Lan, a member of the Hoang Han team, said that her husband is a fisherman, and she stays at home patching the net.
"This time the net patching competition is held, the women are very happy, we need to try harder. I also did not think that the familiar daily work would now become a contest for women to show off their agility together. Hopefully, Phu Quoc will organize more competitions like this in the future so that women can participate".
