Hai Phong - After more than 2 years of implementation, the "Clean Water Supply Station Model on Bach Long Vi Island" has contributed to improving the quality of life of soldiers and people on the outpost island.

25 days to bring clean water to island district

The “Clean Water Supply Station Model on Bach Long Vi Island” of Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company was born from the reality of difficulties in accessing clean water sources on Bach Long Vi Island. In fact, until 2022, the island district's people still mainly use well water and rainwater stored in tanks; there is no clean water supply system that meets standards and is sustainable. Therefore, during the long dry season, the problem of fresh water becomes increasingly scarce, causing difficulties for the lives of soldiers and people as well as the socio-economic activities of the island district.

The Bach Long Vi Island water supply project was launched on March 25, 2022. The water supply station construction project includes a raw water pumping station, a clean water pumping station, a water treatment and filtration cluster with chemical mixing, coagulation and disinfection facilities, along with a technological pipeline system, a water supply network over 6km long to supply water directly to each household and agencies and units on the island... By April 16, 2022, the project was completed, "finishing" 20 days early in the joy of not only the company's staff and employees but also the army and people of the island district.

Mr. Tran Viet Cuong - Party Secretary, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Hai Phong Water Supply Joint Stock Company - said: "In order to complete the project ahead of schedule, from the beginning, the company carefully prepared to select technology and target equipment that met the requirements of quality and quantity but had to be convenient in installation, operation and maintenance. Although the construction process encountered many difficulties due to natural factors, with a spirit of determination, the company's officers and employees put the system into operation early, meeting the expectations of the island district's people."

The clean water supply station put into operation ensures the supply of quality water meeting the QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT standards of the Ministry of Health, fully meeting the water needs of the people on the island at a price equivalent to that of rural areas of Hai Phong.

Ensuring clean water supply until at least 2030

Up to now, the “Clean Water Supply Station Model on Bach Long Vi Island” has maintained stable operation with a capacity of 120-150m3 in the summer and 70-100m3 in the winter; the average annual output is about 29,000 m3, equivalent to approximately 400 million VND in revenue. With a maximum capacity of 300m3 of clean water per day and night, the “Clean Water Supply Station Model on Bach Long Vi Island” is expected to meet the clean water needs of the island district until at least 2030.

The water supply station overcomes all the specific difficulties of the island district such as lack of raw water for production, deterioration of lake water quality due to algae growth, and harsh natural conditions. The technological chain is also scientifically arranged, easy to operate and maintain, convenient for reinforcement, bracing, and minimizing damage when there is a storm. Recently, super typhoon Yagi made landfall, Bach Long Vi Water Supply Station restored water supply operations as soon as the storm passed, joining hands with the island district to overcome the damage after the storm.

With its meaning and effectiveness, recently, the model "Clean water supply station on Bach Long Vi island" was honored as one of 25 typical models nationwide in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.
