According to the plan just agreed upon by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, the nearly 10km section of National Highway 1 (from Kinh Duong Vuong Street to Tay Ninh border) will be expanded to 60m, including 6-8 lanes for high-speed vehicles in the middle ( design speed 80 km/h, with toll collection) and two parallel roads on both sides for motorbikes and mixed vehicles (no toll collection).
The project will start construction in the fourth quarter of 2026 and be completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2028.

According to Lao Dong, on November 25, the number of vehicles traveling in the area of National Highway 1 - Western gateway was quite large.
At Binh Thuan intersection - where the three-story intersection is about to be formed, the line of trucks, passenger cars, container trucks and motorbikes is constantly congested. At many times, traffic flows have to "pull up a little" on the overpass.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Phong (a truck driver, 38 years old) said that traffic congestion occurs almost every day.
"I have been running this route for 10 years, traffic jams are becoming a familiar thing. Hearing the news of expanding to dozens of lanes was a great thing, but now every time there are jams, the delivery is late," Mr. Phong shared.
About 1km away, near Binh Dien Bridge, the situation of crowded vehicles is also happening.

Ms. Nguyen Nguyet Minh (Tan Nhut commune) said: Every morning I have to leave 20-30 minutes early because I am afraid of traffic jams. "Sometimes the traffic is too crowded, it is difficult to get to the road. Hopefully the project will be implemented soon and completed on time so that people in the area can feel somewhat relieved".
Many households living near the An Lac area also hope that the project will help reduce traffic conflicts.
Mr. Vo Cong Minh (70 years old, living near National Highway 1 - Tran Dai Nghia) shared: "An Lac intersection is chaotic during rush hour. If there is a new overpass, it will certainly reduce the flow, making it safer for people to travel".

According to the plan, in addition to expanding the road surface, at Binh Thuan intersection - the intersection between National Highway 1, Nguyen Van Linh Avenue and the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway access road, a 3-storey intersection will be built.
The tunnel floor consists of two two two-way 4-lane underpasses, directly connecting Nguyen Van Linh and the expressway access road.
The ground level organizes a central roundabout to regulate and divert vehicles.
The upper floor includes an existing 4-lane overpass and two newly built parallel bridges, along with two pedestrian bridges across the expressway access road and Nguyen Van Linh Avenue.
At An Lac intersection, the project will build a 4-lane overpass at the intersection of National Highway 1 - Kinh Duong Vuong - Tran Dai Nghia.
At Binh Dien Bridge across Cho Dem River, two more parallel bridges will be built, each with 2 lanes, located next to the existing 8-lane bridge.
