HCMC - After the application of Decree 168, the traffic situation in HCMC has improved, but there are still few vehicles climbing the sidewalk, stopping over the line during rush hour.

After about 6 months since the application of Decree 168 to strengthen administrative sanctions for violations in road traffic, many streets in Ho Chi Minh City have had positive changes.

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper on routes such as Cach Mang Thang Tam, Truong Chinh (Tan Binh District), Tran Quy Kien (Thu Duc City), Quang Trung, Nguyen Oanh (Go Vap District) ..., traffic order has stabilized.

Most traffic participants are on the right side of the road, obeying traffic signals well, and rarely even see cases of running red lights. However, on busy roads, there are still cases of some vehicles stopping over the waiting line when there are red lights or some motorbikes speeding onto the sidewalk to overcome congestion during rush hour, creating local congestion points.

Mr. Doan Minh Tu (residing in District 3) said that traffic conditions have improved significantly.

"Previously, the rush hour on Cach Mang Thang Tam Street was chaotic, motorbikes took up the entire sidewalk, cars stopped in front of the red light line. Now, sometimes I still see some people stopping at the wrong line or climbing the sidewalk, but it has decreased a lot," said Mr. Tu.

Mr. Phan Van Tan (residing in Go Vap) shared: "I travel every day through Quang Trung and Nguyen Oanh streets, seeing many vehicles no longer climbing the sidewalk, not even seeing red light running. In return, the traffic police also regularly set up checkpoints to promptly handle violations".

According to a report from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, from the beginning of 2025 until now, the traffic situation has changed a lot. The volume of public passenger transport reached 267.4 million, an increase of 10% over the same period in 2024.

At the same time, the number of traffic accidents, including collisions, has decreased from 547 to 287 cases, down 260 cases; the number of injured people has decreased by 249, while the number of deaths is still high (234 cases). Regarding the handling of traffic accident black spots, the department has eliminated 2 dangerous spots, only 1 point needs to be fixed.

Many people also believe that Decree 168 has created the first positive changes, the awareness of traffic participants has been raised, congestion has decreased, and urban order has changed significantly.

However, to maintain and replicate effectively, the government needs to continue to strictly punish, expand surveillance using cameras, and at the same time promote extensive propaganda to contribute to creating a safer and more civilized traffic culture in Ho Chi Minh City.
