On the evening of December 3, the Department of Construction of Da Nang City informed about the appearance of a "death hole" in the area of Nguyen Cong Tru Street - from Ngo Quyen Street to Tran Hung Dao Street.
According to initial information, at around 2:10 p.m. on December 3, in the area of Nguyen Cong Tru Street (adjacent to the Capital Square 3 Urban Area project), the road surface suddenly subsided, creating a deep hole 15m long and 6m wide.
The subsidence "swallowed" 2 cars parked on the side of the road, and completely broke the underground drainage culvert. Fortunately, there were no people passing by at the time of the incident, so there were no casualties.
According to the preliminary assessment of the authorities, the cause may be due to the weak surrounding wall system of Capital Square 3 project (investor is SIH Real Estate Company Limited) at the location adjacent to the road. When it rained heavily, the water carrying sand from the surrounding area flowed into the inside of the project through this opening, causing emptiness of the soil under the road. As a result, the drainage line was broken, water from the sewers continued to erode the soil, leading to subsidence of both the roadbed and technical infrastructure.
Not only stopping at the incident on Nguyen Cong Tru Street, people in this area also expressed more concern when cracks also appeared on Ngo Quyen Street nearby.

At the scene, Ngo Quyen Street, right next to the fence of Capital Square 3 project, a series of long cracks appeared on the road surface.
People are concerned that this route has a continuous flow of heavy trucks, while it is still raining, causing a great risk of widespread subsidence.
Immediately after the incident, leaders of the Da Nang City People's Committee, the Department of Construction and local authorities were present at the scene to direct the repair work.
The investor has been required to immediately implement handling measures. Currently, the dangerous area has been blocked off and warning ropes have been put up. Temporary measures are being taken to ensure safety, and at the same time, a specific assessment of the causes is being organized to have a plan to completely overcome the situation, ensuring safety for people and neighboring structures.
