From "wrestling" with letters to scientific medical thinking
Born with a Bachelor of Literature (Can Tho University), by fate, Ms. Nguyen Thi Dieu Hien - Deputy Head of the Faculty of Health Education Communication, Vice President of the Trade Union of the Dong Thap Center for Disease Control (CDC) - started her career as a communication worker at the Health Education Communication Center in her hometown of Dong Thap.
In the early days, she faced a not small challenge: Both having to get acquainted with medical expertise and "wrestling" with converting academic terms into common language for people to easily understand and follow. With a spirit of receptiveness, she was not afraid to learn from online to direct training courses.
Sympathizing with that dedication, the unit created conditions for her to study and graduate with a Master's degree in Public Health (2017-2020). That is the "key" to help her confidently "transform" medical knowledge into close messages.
For her, medical communication is a harmony between the humanity of literature and the precision of medicine - where each product must be strictly verified like a real journalist filtering information before going to the page.
Revolution" from digital tools
If previously, communication materials were often long documents, now Ms. Hien has pioneered in "digitalizing" knowledge. Not stopping at text, she proactively masters graphic tools and many modern digital communication software. Complex scientific knowledge is now neatly "packaged" in visual infographics and lively short videos.
In the early days of "digitalization", she established an "internal criticism group". Here, all publications are thoroughly "dissected" by colleagues before publication.

She recounted the COVID-19 epidemic, when the pressure of time weighed heavily, it was the timely advice of the group that helped her avoid unfortunate mistakes in color and national symbols... A colleague in the group shared: "There are times when Ms. Hien works until late afternoon, but just needing a rebuttal opinion on how to use words or colors more reasonably, she is willing to start over to make the message the most perfect". That spirit has established for the media at CDC Dong Thap into a scientific, democratic and receptive working process.
Spreading the movement "each worker a new skill
Ms. Dieu Hien's journey is a vivid proof of the movement "each worker a new skill" that the Trade Union organization is actively spreading. Proactively learning design and digital communication skills not only helps her adapt to the digital age, but also inspires colleagues at CDC Dong Thap.
In the role of Deputy Chairwoman of the grassroots trade union, she is not only the implementer but also the "fire starter". From her guidance, more and more medical staff have good articles, vivid videos, and more and more people actively learn about technology and apply digital technology to their professional work. "When each worker equips themselves with a new skill, it is also the time for us to contribute more value to improve the quality of people's health care," Ms. Hien shared.
In the digital age, new skills are the "passport" for workers to adapt and develop. And it is quiet, dedicated people like Ms. Hien who are contributing to bringing knowledge closer to life with all responsibility, creativity and dedication. That is also the most effective proof of a learning society - where each individual constantly renews themselves, turning knowledge into value to serve society.
The efforts of MSc. Nguyen Thi Dieu Hien in the journey of "bringing information closer to the people" have been deservedly recognized: 5 consecutive years of excellently completing tasks, the title of Grassroots Emulation Soldier continuously in 2023, 2024, 2025; along with a series of certificates of merit from the Dong Thap Provincial Labor Federation and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor.
