The airport is short of 1,500 to 2,000 workers
According to Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), to date, the total value of output implemented of component project 3 of Long Thanh airport has reached more than 77% of the total value of signed contracts.
On the construction site, an average of 7,170 direct workers are currently maintained. However, personnel mobilization is currently a major obstacle when the entire project is short of about 1,500 to 2,000 workers, concentrated in the main bidding packages such as: 5. 10; 4. 8; 7. 8 and 11. 5.
Regarding progress, package 5.10 construction of passenger terminals has only achieved a volume of over 67% and must basically complete all items put into trial operation in batches from September 2026 and commercial operation in December 2026; Package 4.8 construction of inland port traffic has only achieved nearly 65% of the value of implementation; package 7.8 construction of freight terminal No. 1 has only achieved about 36% of the value of the volume of implementation; package 11.5 construction of parking garages has only achieved over 36%.
Construction and living conditions at the construction site, Long Thanh airport project area are still difficult; the construction site is large, many items are deployed outdoors, affected by hot sun and dust, leading to difficulties in attracting and maintaining the labor force.
To ensure detailed progress, ACV is drastically requesting contractors to mobilize more human resources, aiming for the target of nearly 9,000 direct workers and indirect staff to accelerate internal work and complete dossiers.
Establish scientific construction progress in the rainy season
Statistics show that in the 2025 rainy season, construction progress was delayed by 2 to 4 months due to the direct impact of weather, especially greatly affecting the progress of outdoor construction items.
Therefore, to organize construction to ensure progress and quality of works in the rainy season, ACV has requested contractors to thoroughly implement construction measures in the rainy season. In which, it is necessary to establish a scientific construction progress from the beginning, clearly divide each construction phase, estimate materials, human resources, and reasonable finances, prioritize items in the house during heavy rain; At the same time, establish an effective drainage system at the project, dig drainage ditches, collection pits and arrange backup water pumps in construction areas;
Contractors also need to closely monitor weather developments and flexibly adjust construction according to actual conditions, have contingency plans for arising situations...
The preparation for the operation of Long Thanh airport is also being accelerated. To date, Long Thanh International Airport said that it has received a total of 257 personnel to prepare for operation.
Talking to a reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Truong Trung Thanh - Deputy Director of Long Thanh International Airport - said that personnel are being arranged to work in reality at Tan Son Nhat International Airport and at the Long Thanh International Airport Project to accumulate experience; at the same time, learn from the new technical systems equipped in the near future when Long Thanh airport goes into operation, planned for the end of 2026.
Long Thanh Airport phase 1 builds 2 runways, 1 passenger terminal and synchronous auxiliary items, with a capacity of 25 million passengers/year and 1.2 million tons of cargo/year; completion and commissioning time at the end of 2026.
