Many villages were isolated, causing tens of billions of VND in damage
On June 6, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district quickly reported on the recent flood situation. Accordingly, the prolonged heavy rains on May 29 and June 4 caused flash floods and landslides in many mountainous communes, causing damage to essential infrastructure, stagnant production, and disrupting people's lives.
Nhon Mai and Huu Khuong communes are the most severely affected areas. The whole district recorded a total of 68 houses directly affected, of which 6 were completely swept away, many households were forced to evacuate to temporary housing. Traffic, irrigation, electricity and school systems were severely damaged.

3 bridges for people were washed away, many roads were cut off by landslides, causing dozens of villages to be temporarily isolated. Heavy rain also caused great damage to the education sector, when Huu Khuong Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities was deeply flooded, many classrooms, toilets and boarding kitchens were washed away or severely damaged.
In particular, on National Highway 16 through Nhon Mai commune, there were 2 serious landslides, with a total length of about 30 meters, large rocks and soil covering the road surface, causing temporary isolation. In addition, many inter-village and inland roads in Huu Khuong and Nhon Mai were also eroded with positive slopes, cracked road surfaces, mud, and motor vehicles could not travel.
The agriculture - forestry - fishery and livestock sector suffered heavy losses with more than 88 hectares of crops, rice, fruit trees and glue destroyed, nearly 1,100 livestock and poultry died or were swept away. The system of fish cages and aquaculture ponds was almost completely washed away in the villages along the river. The total damage in the whole district is estimated at more than 40.9 billion VND.
Mobilizing all efforts to overcome the consequences

Immediately after the natural disaster, the People's Committee of Tuong Duong district established interdisciplinary working groups directly led by leaders at the scene. The police, military, medical, militia and commune cadres were mobilized to support people in evacuating, clearing the flow, collecting animal carcasses and handling the environment.
The government has also submitted a document asking the province to support 10.75 billion VND to relocate 43 households from high-risk areas, and proposed a budget package of 55.3 billion VND to restore essential infrastructure, such as renovating bridges, repairing irrigation, embankment to prevent landslides and restoring domestic water supply works.
Households with damaged agricultural production are being reviewed to support crop, livestock and rice varieties to reduce hunger. The People's Committee of the district is committed to absolutely not letting people go hungry due to natural disasters, and at the same time directing communes to closely monitor weather developments, activate early warning systems, and be ready to evacuate people if there are signs of continued heavy rain.
Mr. Dinh Hong Vinh - Chairman of Tuong Duong District People's Committee said: "We are focusing all our efforts to overcome the consequences, first of all to ensure temporary safety and stability for people's lives, and in the long term, to restore production and infrastructure. I hope all levels will soon approve the support fund so that no one is left behind".
