In the afternoon of May 29, information to the Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, the leader of the People's Committee of Que Phong District, Nghe An Province, said that immediately after the flash flood at Long Thang village cluster, Hanh Dich commune, the district urgently sent a delegation to the scene to check the situation, direct the relief work and overcome the consequences.

The delegation led by Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bui Van Hien, along with the leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the Economic - Infrastructure Division directly present in the area of natural disasters. The district leaders requested Hanh Dich commune to mobilize local forces and people in the area to help the affected households, urgently statistics of damage, propose plans to support production and stabilize people's lives.
Previously, from the afternoon of May 28, there was prolonged heavy rain in Hanh Dich commune. At around 9:00 p.m. the same day, a flash flood suddenly occurred in Long Thang village. Floodwaters from the upstream of Pung stream poured in, carrying soil, rocks and trees, sweeping away many properties and crops of people living on both sides of the stream.

According to the report of Hanh Dich Commune Prevention and Control Steering Committee, as of 11pm on May 29, flash floods caused more than 10 hectares of rice fields about to be harvested, collapsed 3 houses - including a house completely swept away, buried 2 hectares of cassava, 0.3ha of acacia trees. Many household items such as plows, harvests, motorbikes and hundreds of cattle and poultry of the people are also swept away. The total damage is estimated at over 3 billion.
In the face of the above situation, the leaders of Que Phong district requested localities to review and inspect households living in high-risk areas such as riverside, steep slopes, areas prone to flash floods, and landslides to proactively evacuate when necessary.

Members of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Hanh Dich commune are required to closely monitor the facilities, update the situation and report promptly to have effective response instructions, minimizing damage to the people.
