Urgently search for fishing boat carrying 50 people missing at sea

Da Nang - A fishing boat carrying 50 people lost contact while operating about 35 nautical miles from An Bang Island, Truong Sa special zone.

On the afternoon of August 27, the Border Guard Command of Da Nang City said that by 6 pm on the same day, it had not been possible to contact fishing vessel QNa-90859-TS and 50 people on board.

According to a quick report from the City Border Guard Command, the last position of the ship was recorded by the tracking system at 12:54 PM on August 25th, at coordinates 07°50'17''N - 112°20'36''E.

This location is about 540 nautical miles south-southeast of Son Tra Cape (Da Nang), about 35 nautical miles west of An Bang Island, Truong Sa Special Zone (Khanh Hoa).

From the above time until now, functional forces have not established contact with the ship.

Fishing vessel QNa-90859-TS is 23.9m long, 1,682.8CV capacity, engaged in squid fishing, owned and captained by Mr. Huynh Van Tri (born in 1979, residing in Nui Thanh commune, Da Nang city).

The ship departed from An Hoa Border Guard Station, Ky Ha Port Border Guard Station on July 29, with a total of 50 people on board, including the captain and 49 crew members.

Through the journey monitoring system, functional forces determined that there are fishing vessels BD-98848-TS, BD-98710-TS and BD-98042-TS operating about 12-20 nautical miles from the area where vessel QNa-90859-TS lost connection.

The Command of the Border Guard of Da Nang City has directed the Ky Ha Port Border Guard Station to coordinate with local authorities and families to monitor the situation; and at the same time called on vehicles operating near the area to support the search.

Information about the incident was also transferred to the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard, the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region IV and functional forces to coordinate verification and search.

The Command of the Da Nang City Border Guard Command also requested the City People's Committee and the City Civil Defense Command to report to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee, and mobilize additional forces to participate in searching for the fishing boat and 50 people who are missing.
