On July 30, Mr. Chau Van Hoa - Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee - together with Ms. Le Thi Thuy Kieu - Provincial Party Committee Member, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Council - and leaders of departments and branches surveyed the situation of riverbank, canal, and ditch landslides in Vinh Xuan commune.
The working delegation directly inspected landslide points, assessed the progress of recovery, recorded difficulties in implementing treatment projects, and provided a basis for considering appropriate solutions to ensure safety for people and works in the area.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Vinh Xuan commune currently has 13 landslide locations with a total length of about 359m. Among them, one location has been declared an emergency situation, four locations are supported by the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Control Fund, one location is proactively overcome by local authorities, and seven new locations arose in July 2026.
Notably, the landslide point on the La Ghi canal, the section from the water storage pond of the centralized water supply system to the concrete embankment in front of the Provincial Party Committee's Traditional House, about 220m long, has been declared an emergency situation since July 2024.
The project to reinforce this area has been approved for its mission with an estimate of more than 12 billion VND. However, the project cannot be implemented because capital has not been allocated, and investment documents must be updated according to the new regulations of the Construction Law.
For four projects supported by the Provincial Disaster Prevention and Control Fund, with a total length of 161m and a budget of 526 million VND, the locality is organizing construction and is expected to complete it in August 2026. The commune has also used nearly 35 million VND of the budget to handle the 14m long landslide section on the Kenh Moi canal route.
Separately, the seven newly arising landslide locations have a total length of 167m, concentrated on the New Canal, Ba Nghe canal and La Ghi river. The locality plans to self-repair four locations, and at the same time complete the dossier requesting the province to support funding for handling the remaining three locations.
At the survey points, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Chau Van Hoa requested units to review each location, clearly identify authority, capital sources and urgently complete investment procedures to soon deploy reinforcement and landslide recovery works.
For small-scale landslide points, localities need to proactively mobilize forces and materials according to the "4 on-site" motto, and mobilize people to coordinate temporary reinforcement. For dangerous and urgent locations, functional sectors must soon advise on applying emergency construction mechanisms to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
