Khanh Hoa warns of widespread heavy rain, increased risk of flooding and landslides

Khanh Hoa - Local weather is cloudy, with scattered showers, the southern part of the province recorded many places with scattered moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms.

On December 3, the Khanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station issued a warning of heavy rain in the whole province, directly affecting 19 communes and wards.

In the past 24 hours, Khanh Hoa has had cloudy weather, scattered showers; the southern part of the province has recorded many places with scattered moderate to heavy rain with thunderstorms.

According to the forecast, from December 3 to 4, Khanh Hoa will continue to experience moderate rain, heavy rain, and some places will have very heavy rain and thunderstorms. Total rainfall is generally 40 - 80 mm/ods, some places may exceed 150 mm/ods.

During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. The specialized agency noted that the intensity of rain could exceed 60 mm in 3 hours.

Forecast rainfall in the following areas:

40 - 80 mm/ period, some places over 100 mm/ period: Van Ninh, Dai Lanh, Dong Ninh Hoa, Tay Ninh Hoa, Khanh Vinh, Tay Khanh Vinh, Dien Khanh, Nha Trang, Thuan Nam.

40 - 70 mm/ period, some places over 150 mm/ period: Khanh Son, Bac Ai, Ninh Son, Phan Rang, Cam Ranh, Cam Lam, Ninh Hai, Thuan Bac, Ninh Phuoc.

Khanh Hoa Hydrometeorological Station warns that prolonged heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas; at the same time, it increases the risk of landslides in mountainous areas, where the terrain is steep and the geological foundation is weak.

Thunderstorms accompanied by tornadoes, lightning and strong winds can cause roofs to blown off, trees to break, affecting the safety of people and livestock.

In the bulletin issued at 7:00 a.m. on December 3, the tropical depression is active in the northwest sea area of the central East Sea, with winds of level 6, gusting to level 8.

It is forecasted that by 7:00 p.m. the same day, the center of the low pressure will move into the Dak Lak - Khanh Hoa sea area and gradually weaken into a low pressure area.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, the northwestern sea of the East Sea and the area off the coast of Khanh Hoa will have waves 2 - 4 m high.

Ships operating in this area are advised to pay attention to thunderstorms, whirlwinds, strong winds and large waves.

From December 5, Khanh Hoa will have scattered rain, some places will have moderate rain and thunderstorms. During thunderstorms, there is still a risk of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind.
