National Highway 279 section passing through Quang Ninh province is about 62.5km long from the intersection of National Highway 18 (Km140+200) to /QL. 18) to the top of Ha My pass, adjacent to Bac Ninh province (Km62+500/QL. 279). Based on the current connection status, terrain characteristics and based on research results, Quang Ninh will invest in upgrading 4 sections on National Highway 279 section passing through Quang Ninh province to connect regional traffic and Bac Ninh province.
In which, section 1 from Km8+600 to Km13+600, section 2 from Km24+800 to Km27+250, section 3 from Km38+800 to Km40+300 and section 4 from Km46+400 to Km53+300, passing through Hoanh Bo ward, Viet Hung ward, Quang La commune, Thong Nhat commune, Quang Ninh province.
Section 1: From Km8+60 (connection of the project being invested at Dong La intersection) to Km13+600 (Cau Bang intersection) belonging to Hoanh Bo ward. Section 2: From Km24+800 (Tinh Yeu bridge intersection) to Km27+250 (Van Yen intersection) belonging to Viet Hung ward. Section 3: From Km38+800 (Dong Dang intersection) to Km40+300 (start of the old Dan Chu commune center) belonging to Thong Nhat commune. Section 4: From Km46+400 (DT intersection. 327) to Km53+300 (ancient Tan Dan commune center) belonging to Quang La commune
The total length of the entire route to be upgraded is about 15.6km; designed according to level III plain road standards, design speed of 80km/h. The total investment is about 980 billion VND.
Implementation time from 2026 - 2029.
The project investment will overcome congestion, ensure traffic safety, create motivation for the development of the northern area of Cua Luc Bay, attract investment, and create an East-West connecting axis to reduce pressure on National Highway 18 section passing through the center of former Ha Long City and the North-South axis connecting Quang La commune with the central urban area.
The formed project will synchronously connect with projects that have been and are being invested in, promote investment efficiency, create motivation to promote socio-economic development, and concretize the goal of developing synchronous, modern, interconnected, and inter-regional transport infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the section 5 of National Highway 279 from Km54+000 to Km62+500 (Ha My pass peak, adjacent to Bac Ninh territory), is 8.5km long. This section has particularly difficult terrain conditions, with many continuous small radius curves, steep slopes, high hills and deep abysses. The section from Ha My pass peak to Bac Ninh is currently still being exploited on a V-MN level road scale, regularly maintained with capital from the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam, so the road surface is still good.
