On September 17, in Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang province, the Command (BTL) of Coast Guard Region 4 organized a preliminary review conference of the Peak Month against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing from August 15 - September 15, 2026.
During the Peak Month, the Party Committee and heads of Coast Guard Region 4 Command led and directed drastically, deploying synchronously and specifically many measures close to the actual situation and task requirements; officers and soldiers have high determination, promote good sense of responsibility, and successfully complete the set contents and targets, not allowing fishing vessels to cross the boundary and violate foreign waters.
Notably, the Regional Command has promoted propaganda to raise awareness and responsibility for thousands of turns of officials, people, and fishermen in the area in many forms such as: Organizing "Called Court Sessions"; seminars and exchanges on regulations against IUU fishing with fishermen; deploying banners and slogans to promote QR code integration at key fishing ports and ports...
Ships performing tasks on the ground have actively and proactively combined patrols and inspections with legal propaganda for nearly 700 fishing boats/4,500 crew members, distributed nearly 3000 leaflets, and presented more than 500 national flags...
The Regional Command has directed 43 turns of ships and boats to perform tasks at sea, traveling over 20,000 safe nautical miles; monitoring, supervising, inspecting, and strictly controlling 100% of fishing vessels operating in the assigned sea area; promptly calling to propagate and remind more than 200 turns of ship owners with fishing vessels losing vessel monitoring signals (VMS).
Detected, inspected, arrested, and brought ashore for handling 2 cases/2 fishing vessels illegally storing and transporting 4 VMS devices of other fishing vessels; administratively sanctioned 10 cases/10 fishing vessels; arrested and handled 1 fishing vessel transporting nearly 130,000 liters of DO oil without legal papers. At the same time, it has closely coordinated with functional forces and local Party committees and authorities in deploying tasks and solutions to combat IUU fishing.
Speaking at the conclusion of the conference, Major General Dao Ba Viet, Commander of the Region emphasized: The above results clearly reflect the efforts and determination of officers and soldiers of the Command of the Region over the past time. This is a premise and basis for the unit to continue to implement well the task of combating IUU fishing in the coming time. Comrade Commander of the Region requested Party committees, commanders of agencies, units and all officers and soldiers to always clearly identify combating IUU fishing as a key and regular political task of the unit, thereby continuing to uphold the spirit and responsibility, overcome difficulties, and implement solutions more drastically and effectively with the spirit of "peak" at all times, everywhere, and all tasks. From there, contributing to early removal of the EC's "yellow card" for Vietnam's seafood industry, for a sustainable fishing industry.
