On the morning of November 3, in a quick exchange with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Hoang Quoc Huy - Head of Mau Son Hydrometeorological Station (Lang Son) said that the cold air has strengthened and swept down to the North, causing the weather to turn cold with light rain. The lowest temperature recorded at Mau Son peak was only about 10 degrees Celsius.
Accordingly, this is the second consecutive day that the North has been affected by the strengthening cold air, the common temperature has decreased by 2-3 degrees Celsius compared to yesterday.
In addition to Mau Son, a series of other high mountainous areas such as Sin Ho (Lai Chau), Pha Din (Dien Bien), Sa Pa (Lao Cai), Dong Van (Tuyen Quang) and Tam Dao (Phu Tho) all drop below 12 degrees Celsius.
Along with that, the Northern Delta this morning recorded a temperature of 17-18 degrees Celsius.
In Hanoi, the three stations of Lang, Hoai Duc, and Ha Dong all recorded 17 degrees Celsius, while Ba Vi and Son Tay were at 18 degrees Celsius.
Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces have also begun to be affected, with average temperatures at measuring stations ranging from 19-20 degrees Celsius.
According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, cold air continues to expand, affecting the Northwest, North Central and Central Central regions today.
The North, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An will have common temperatures from 16-19 degrees Celsius, with some mountainous areas below 15 degrees Celsius.
Forecast of rain, northeast monsoon level 2-3 on land, coastal areas strong level 3-4.
The Gulf of Tonkin has strong winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 8, waves 2-3 3.5 m high, rough seas; the North East Sea has winds of level 6-7, gusts of level 8-9, waves 3-5 m high.
The meteorological agency warns that local cold may affect livestock, poultry and crops in high mountains. Prolonged heavy rains also pose a risk of flooding in low-lying areas, flash floods and landslides in the northern mountainous areas.
In October, the North recorded three cold air waves.
Notably, on October 19, Mau Son dropped to nearly 9 degrees Celsius, Tam Dao and Sin Ho only 12 degrees Celsius; on October 26, many places such as Mau Son, Pha Din, Dong Van all recorded 13 degrees Celsius.
Experts predict that in November, cold air will appear denser, with stronger intensity, signaling early winter and severe cold may appear from the middle of the month.
