Effective use of marine resources
Khanh Hoa orients development based on a sustainable marine economic foundation, effectively exploiting and using marine resources. Tourism is identified as a spearhead economic sector, in addition to key sectors such as high-tech processing and manufacturing industry, logistics services, energy industry and digital economy. Truong Sa Special Zone is oriented to become an economic, cultural and social center at sea of the whole country, a solid fortress to protect the sovereignty of the Fatherland. Currently, the marine and coastal economy contributes up to 80% of Khanh Hoa's GRDP.
In Ninh Thuan before the merger, the focus for marine economic development was shaped through Resolution No. 17/2022 with the main areas: Renewable energy, urban - marine services, coastal industry, aquaculture and seafood exploitation, offshore wind power research.
To date, the proportion of the marine economy contributes 42.2% of Ninh Thuan's GRDP; renewable energy alone accounts for 74.2% of total electricity production, becoming a breakthrough field.
After the merger, Khanh Hoa expanded its development space, owning nearly 500km of coastline, about 200 large and small islands, many beautiful bays such as Van Phong, Nha Trang, Cam Ranh, Vinh Hy; large seaports such as Cam Ranh, Nha Trang, Ca Na.
The strengths of marine tourism, seafood, seaports, coastal industry, and renewable energy of the two provinces are supplemented and supported each other, creating a premise for Khanh Hoa to become a new growth pole of the region.
Towards a green marine economy and sustainable development
According to Mr. Nguyen Duy Quang - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province has implemented the Action Plan for Ocean Plastic Waste Management to 2030; Comprehensive Plan for the restoration of Nha Trang Bay; implementing Decision No. 1539 of the Prime Minister on expanding marine reserves and restoring marine ecosystems.
At the same time, the province has initially implemented the development of an Action Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to "0" by 2045. The province takes advantage of the potential of exploiting green carbon credits from the coastal ecosystem, contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing carbon absorption, towards net zero emissions by 2045.
In addition, priority is given to developing high-quality marine human resources, international integration, research cooperation and technology transfer, gradually building smart, sustainable, unique, globally connected marine cities.
Mr. Tran Hoa Nam - Vice Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee - said that the province has completed the approval of important plans on the exploitation and use of marine and island resources; developed strategic projects such as developing high-tech marine farming, building Truong Sa special zone into a national marine economic - cultural - social center, and establishing a National Center for Ocean Technology Research.
The province has put into operation 17 seaports and 1 oil handling area, and at the same time developed a system of fishing ports and anchorage areas on islands in the Truong Sa special zone to serve offshore fishing.
Many large corporations such as Sumitomo (Japan) have invested in energy infrastructure and marine industry, affirming Khanh Hoa's attraction in the field of high-tech marine economy.
According to Mr. Nguyen Khac Dinh - Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, the recent merger of Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan is not only a merger of administrative boundaries, but also has a long-term strategic significance, creating new development space, position and new strength for a land rich in marine potential.
