On the morning of October 28, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Phan Duy Vinh - Vice Chairman of Nghi Xuan Commune People's Committee - said that the commune had worked with the Secretary and Village Chief of Hong Tien village to clarify the incident in this village of giving gifts to support flood recovery, each household received 5 rice branches and half a bottle of fresh water.
"We have also asked the Secretary and Village Chief to meet with the people to rectify and learn from experience, but doing so is not possible," said Mr. Vinh.
Previously, on October 27, Facebook spread information that each household in Hong Tien village, Nghi Xuan commune received a support gift after storm No. 10, including 5 sets of rice and half a bottle of soft drinks.
The information quickly received attention and many comments said it was unbelievable that such an incident had occurred. Many people think that we should choose more disadvantaged households to provide the minimum support of 5kg of rice/household, not divide it equally to receive too little.
Regarding the above issue, an official of the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghi Xuan commune said that after storm No. 10, Nghi Xuan commune received 5.4 tons of rice and more than 260 boxes of soft drinks from a charity organization. The whole commune has 39 villages, of which Hong Lam village did not receive support because it had been supported by many other groups.
For the remaining 38 villages, the commune divided each village about 1.3 quintals of rice and 7 boxes of soft drinks, and the densely populated village received 3 more bird's nest.
After that, Hong Tien village divided 1.3 quintals of rice and 7 boxes of soft drinks equally among 16 groups for the groups to self-comments, leading to little division of gifts to support flood recovery, causing such a negative impression.
According to the official of the Fatherland Front Committee of Nghi Xuan commune, such awareness and approach at the grassroots level are inappropriate. The locality will invite the Hong Tien Village Front Working Committee and representatives of the joint venture group to work to clarify and learn from experience.
