Noi Bai International Airport puts into operation a biometric kiosk system at Terminal T1, serving passengers traveling on domestic flights. With this mobile system, passengers quickly complete biometric authentication before checking in.
Directly experiencing the biometric kiosk system on the first day of operation, Ms. Nguyen Tung Chi (Hai Phong) said that the application of biometric technology in the procedure process contributes to shortening authentication time.
I saw a lot of passengers standing in line waiting at the security checkpoint, before boarding the plane. Meanwhile, right in front of this area, there are about 3-4 machines to assist in flight procedures using biometrics on VNeID. My house is crowded, so we divided it into 2 shifts, one shift lined up to wait according to the traditional security check method. The other shift wanted to experience this new rig, the time until the flight time is still quite long, so I wanted to try it" - Ms. Chi said.
According to Ms. Chi, biometric authentication helps save maximum time, each person less than 10 seconds.
Passengers only need to perform three steps including: Scan the barcode on the airline card, scan the citizen identification card with a chip at the data reader slot and look straight at the camera for the facial recognition system. Each step reads the information quite quickly, just look at the person in front doing it and the next person can do it themselves" - Ms. Chi informed.
Sharing the same feeling, Mr. Nguyen Truong Tho (Ninh Binh) proceeded to complete procedures to board the plane to move to Gia Lai - sharing: "My family has 5 people, I represent and operate for the whole family. Each person only has about 5-7 seconds, fast and neat. After completing all 3 steps, each person moves into the security area by facial recognition".
Mr. Tho said that the process is clearly guided, so even first-time users can operate easily.
In order to support passengers to get acquainted with the new technology, the Youth Union of Noi Bai International Airport has arranged for union members to be on duty at the biometric kiosk area. Volunteers directly guide operations, especially for the elderly and passengers who use this authentication method for the first time.
In addition to authentication at kiosks in the terminal, passengers can proactively authenticate biometrics through the VNeID application or airline applications before arriving at the airport.
In the initial phase of deployment, the system has not been applied to foreign passengers, children under 16 years old and some cases only use VNeID accounts at the airport.
However, for passengers who are not used to using technology or need direct support, traditional check-in counters at T1 terminal still maintain normal operation to meet needs.
Putting biometric kiosks into operation is the next step of the aviation industry in applying VNeID and biometric authentication into flight procedures. This solution helps improve passenger experience, reduce waiting times and increase operational efficiency at airports, especially during the summer peak.
