On July 2nd, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Anh chaired a meeting to consider the plan to implement the project to renovate and upgrade infrastructure and landscape in the Lung Po Flagpole area in A Mu Sung commune.
According to the report, Lung Po Flagpole - where the Red River flows into Vietnam - is a project of special significance in affirming national border sovereignty, educating patriotism, national pride, and is also a destination attracting a large number of tourists when coming to Lao Cai.

The consulting unit has proposed two investment options.
The first option is to expand the ground area by about 2,000m2 to build a hall combined with a traditional room and deploy 6 items, including: Ho Chi Minh Memorial House, renovating Lung Po Flagpole, hall and traditional room, parking lot and landscape, public toilets, renovating the road to milestone 92 and renovating border marker number 92. The total estimated investment is about 29.5 billion VND.
The second option is to take advantage of the existing site, implement 5 similar items but not renovate the road to milestone 92. The total estimated investment is nearly 20 billion VND.
At the meeting, delegates focused on analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of each option; exchanged views on the significance of architectural items and options as well as solutions to remove difficulties related to the relocation of households in the area.
Concluding the meeting, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tuan Anh emphasized that this is a project of special political, historical and national sovereignty significance. The renovation needs to have a long-term vision, select a capable design consulting unit, ensure a unified architectural language, use modern materials but still retain local identity.
Leaders of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee also requested to study and supplement items to serve tourists such as waiting houses, reasonable parking lots, souvenir sales areas and spaces to introduce the history and significance of the project.

In the long term, the province aims to attract investors to develop accommodation facilities and tourism services in the surrounding area, gradually forming a unique cultural and tourist space associated with Lung Po Flagpole.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Anh assigned departments and agencies to urgently complete relevant contents to submit plans in the next meeting.
