The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that on the evening of August 22, floods downstream of the Luc Nam and Thuong rivers are rising.
At 7 pm, the water level of the Luc Nam River at Luc Nam station reached 5.69 m, about 0.39 m higher than alarm level 2. The water level of the Thuong River at Phu Lang Thuong station reached 4.61 m, about 0.31 m above alarm level 1.
In the next 6-12 hours, the downstream flood of the Luc Nam River is forecast to continue to rise but still below alarm level 3. The water level at Luc Nam station may reach 6 m at 1 am on August 23, increasing to 6.15 m at 7 am and reaching 6.2 m at 1 pm, about 0.1 m lower than alarm level 3. By 7 pm on the same day, the water level may decrease to 6 m.
In the next 12-24 hours, the downstream flood of the Luc Nam River will fluctuate at alarm level 2-3. The downstream flood of the Thuong River will continue to rise and fluctuate around alarm level 2.
The meteorological agency predicts that from August 22 to 25, floods on rivers in the Northeast region are likely to remain at a high level.
Flood peaks on the Thuong and Luc Nam rivers; Trung and Ky Cung rivers in Lang Son; Bang Giang river in Cao Bang and upstream Cau river in Thai Nguyen may reach alarm level 2-3, some rivers exceed alarm level 3.
On the evening of August 22, the water in the Ky Cung River section passing through the center of Lang Son urban area rose rapidly, approaching the shoreline. In the Ky Cung bridge area, the distance between the water surface and the bridge surface narrowed significantly.
Previously, heavy rain caused flooding on many central streets and Gieng Vuong wholesale market in the morning of the same day, affecting business activities and people's travel.
In That Khe and Trang Dinh communes, floodwaters also rose rapidly, causing localized flooding. Functional forces and people overnight supported households in dangerous areas to move people and property to safe places.
In Na Sam commune, water from the upstream of the Ky Cung River rushed in, flooding the Na Sam market area. Recognizing the dangerous developments, local authorities activated on-site response plans and mobilized forces to support people.
Lang Son Provincial People's Committee has issued an official dispatch requesting departments, branches and commune and ward authorities to urgently implement measures to respond to storm No. 4 and floods. Working groups have also been established to inspect key areas.
The meteorological agency warns of a high risk of flooding in low-lying areas along rivers; flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides on slopes in Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Bac Ninh, Cao Bang and Thai Nguyen.
Floods can affect waterway traffic, aquaculture, agricultural production, people's lives and socio-economic activities. Flood-related natural disaster risk is at level 2.
