
To make election day truly a festival for the whole people
The first General Election to elect the Vietnamese National Assembly held on January 6, 1946, was a momentous event in the nation's history. After the great success of the August Revolution, despite countless difficulties and internal and external enemies, but for the supreme interests of the nation, determined to protect the independence and freedom just gained, consolidate the young revolutionary government, continue to unite all patriotic forces, with the wise and talented leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, the General Election on January 6, 1946 was completely victorious, went down in the nation's history, marking a brilliant milestone in the process of building a democratic institution, legally affirming the right to mastery of the Vietnamese people: from the status of slaves, rising up to gain independence, mastering national destiny, self-organizing their own State - the first industrial-agricultural state in Southeast Asia.
This victory opened a new era of a country with a National Assembly, a unified Government, a progressive 1946 Constitution and a system of government with full legal basis to represent the Vietnamese people in terms of domestic and foreign affairs.
The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) has an extremely important role and responsibility in the election of National Assembly deputies and the election of People's Council deputies at all levels. This has been specifically stipulated in the Law on Election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies, the Law on the Vietnam Fatherland Front and many other legal documents detailing and guiding implementation. Through the elections of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has proactively and actively prepared and participated in organizing well the steps and tasks so that the election day is truly a festival for the whole people.
Specifically, the rights and responsibilities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in the election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels are stipulated in the 2013 Constitution; Law on Election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies (some articles have been amended and supplemented according to Law No. 83/2025/QH15) and Law on the Vietnam Fatherland Front (some articles have been amended and supplemented according to Law No. 97/2025/QH15).
Article 4, Clause 5 of the Law on Election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies (Electoral Law) stipulates: "The Vietnam Fatherland Front shall organize consultations to select and introduce candidates for National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies at all levels; participate in supervising the election of National Assembly Deputies and People's Council Deputies at all levels".
Article 19 of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Law stipulates: "The Vietnam Fatherland Front shall, in accordance with the law, organize consultations, select and introduce candidates for National Assembly deputies, People's Council deputies; participate in organizations in charge of elections; coordinate with relevant state agencies to organize voter conferences at the commune level, meetings between voters and candidates; participate in propaganda and mobilization of voters to implement the law on elections".
Thus, according to regulations, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has important rights and responsibilities in the election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies, specifically as follows: participating in organizations in charge of elections; organizing consultations to select and introduce candidates for National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels; coordinating to organize voter conferences at the commune level, voter meetings; participating in propaganda and mobilization of voters to implement the law on elections; receiving citizens, handling petitions and participating in resolving complaints, denunciations, recommendations, and reflections related to election work and candidates; participating in supervising the election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels.
Choose typical, worthy people
The election of National Assembly deputies of the XVI term and People's Council deputies of all levels for the 2026-2031 term is a major political event of the country; is a widespread democratic activity among the people to promote the right to mastery, select typical and worthy people, representing the will, aspirations and right to mastery of the people.
Implementing its rights and responsibilities, recently, the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front organized the first consultation conference to discuss the structure, composition, and number of people of agencies, organizations, and units at the Central level who were introduced to run for National Assembly deputies of the XVI term.
Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai - Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, Vice Chairwoman of the National Election Council emphasized that thoroughly and promptly grasp the direction of the Politburo, the election preparation work is being implemented closely, uniformly and proactively from the Central to local levels, creating an important foundation for successfully organizing the election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels, expected to be held on March 15, 2026. The success of the election depends on many factors, including the extremely important role and responsibility of the Vietnam Fatherland Front system.
Ms. Bui Thi Minh Hoai emphasized that organizing the Consultative Conference, introducing candidates for National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies is an extremely important task in the election process, aiming to agree on the structure, composition and number of deputies of agencies, organizations, and units to be introduced to run for election, and at the same time make preliminary lists and select, and make official lists of candidates for National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels.
At the conference, attending delegates unanimously voted on the estimated total number of people introduced to run for National Assembly deputy of the XVI term of agencies, organizations, and units at the Central level, which is 217 delegates.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Vice Chairwoman of the National Assembly, the Politburo and the National Assembly have decided the election date to be March 15, 2026 (January 27, Binh Ngo year). Thus, the time for round 2 and round 3 consultations, as well as organizing related conferences, falls right on the occasion of the Binh Ngo Lunar New Year 2026. Procedures and processes for consultation and collecting opinions from voters in the place of work and residence are carried out according to regulations, so the role of the Front from the Central to local levels is very important, ensuring that the election of National Assembly deputies of the XVI term and the election of People's Council deputies of the 2026-2031 term are truly a political event of the whole country, of the nation, and also a great festival of the whole people.
Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Thanh clearly stated: The selection and election of typical delegates, representing the will, aspirations, and wisdom of the people to participate in the National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels is a key task of the entire Party, people, and army in 2026.
