HCMC - In the days leading up to Lunar New Year, the streets, markets and even metro stations are busier, more crowded and vibrant.

According to Lao Dong's records on the evening of January 17, at Ben Thanh Station (District 1), Thao Dien (Thu Duc City)... there were many people traveling by metro to go to school and work. People have also gradually become familiar with the procedures of using QR Codes and Mastercards when entering and exiting the metro gates.

After work, Mr. Pham Khang (living in Thu Duc City) said that his house is in Thu Duc and his company is in District 1, so every month he has to spend a large amount of money on gas and parking fees.

"Thanks to the free metro for nearly a month now, I have saved nearly 3 million VND, so I have a little extra this Tet. Moreover, it normally takes about 1 hour to travel more than 10 km by car, but now the metro helps me save about half the time compared to before," said Mr. Khang.

Ms. Anh Thu (living in District 5) shared that she has gradually gotten used to taking the metro to school, so she plans to choose this means of transportation for the long term because it is safe and convenient.

"Before, I had to wake up at 5am and arrive at school at the National University Village at 7am. When I arrived, I was quite tired because of the long distance and traffic jams. But now, by taking the metro, I just get on the train and wait to get there," Anh Thu said excitedly.

According to the plan, after 30 days of free travel, starting from January 21, passengers on Metro Line 1 will officially pay the fare with the options of buying single-trip tickets, daily tickets or monthly tickets for convenient travel.

One-way ticket prices range from VND7,000 to VND20,000 for cash payments and from VND6,000 to VND19,000 for cashless payments.

A 1-day ticket costs 40,000 VND/person, a 3-day ticket costs 90,000 VND/person (unlimited trips). In addition, a monthly ticket costs 300,000 VND/person for general passengers and 150,000 VND/person for students.

Passengers who buy single-trip tickets at the counter in cash will receive a paper ticket with a QR code to scan upon entering the station, or can pay via international EMV card or domestic card.
