This is also one of the first provincial hospitals in the country to successfully organize organ retrieval from a brain-dead donor.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, in 2024, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital, Uong Bi City has researched, developed and issued the Project "Implementing kidney collection and transplantation from living donors and from brain-dead donors at Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital.
During the implementation of this Project, the unit has ensured that operating rooms meet standards, and equipment systems are adequate to perform vascular and urological techniques; testing departments meet ISO 15189:2012; and infection control meets the needs of organ transplant surgery.
The hospital has also signed an agreement to receive technical transfer from Viet Duc Friendship Hospital; sent 40 doctors, nurses, and technicians to participate in training and receive direct technical transfer at the upper level, and will have experts to guide and support later when implementing in practice at the unit.
Previously, according to the survey and assessment of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital has ensured sufficient conditions regarding the status of facilities, equipment, human resources, and capacity for a medical facility that takes and transplants human tissues and body parts according to the regulations of the Ministry of Health.
Notably, in April 2024, Vietnam - Sweden Uong Bi Hospital was also one of the first provincial medical units nationwide to organize the implementation of organ harvesting from a brain-dead donor, thereby saving the lives of 7 people, including 2 children who had a new life.
